Twenty years ago after I finished a automotive technology certificate program I started at a Ford dealership with an apprentice program. I worked hourly in a bay next to an experienced technician who showed me the processes for the first couple weeks. He looked over my work and was available to help in diagnosis and any process issues I had after that until my productivity reached a level where I was able to confidently go flat rate.
Young technicians need mentors in the shop.
