We are a Ford, Lincoln and Toyota Dealership, located in Grand Junction, right off Interstate 70 in beautiful Western Colorado. We have been family owned and operated since 1912. We are a company that realizes our most important asset is our employees and are looking to grow our team. We are currently going through an expansion and are going to have 20 extra bays that we need to fill to keep up with our ever growing work load. We are scheduling at a minimum of 4-6 weeks year round.

  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    Yes, the shop is both heated and Air conditioned.

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    20 - 30 people between Technicians and Service Advisors

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    Hours are Monday - Friday 7:30am-5:30pm and 8:00am-5:00pm on Saturdays.

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    All required Special Service Tools from the Manufacturer. Western Slope Auto also provides all the flush machines, A/C machines, press, jacks, hoists, benches, tire machines, tire balancers, smoke machine, brake lathe (both on and off the car), and diagnostic computers.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    Table, Chairs, Refrigerator, Microwave, Sink, and Coffee Machine.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    38 Bays now and 22 more being built.

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    2500

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    Technician inspects vehicle and sends electronic parts request, Service Advisor builds estimate and gets work approved then orders the parts.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    Side work can be done on close friends and family vehicles outside of normal business hours.

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    Western Colorado is home to a lot of outdoor activities. The climate here is mild with no natural disasters. This is a great area for outdoor enthusiasts with an abundance of hiking, biking, skiing, 4-wheeling and a bunch of other recreational activities.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    Yes, we have apprentices that work with our more experienced technicians to learn the skills of the trade. We also offer classes through the manufacturer to obtain factory level certifications.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    We expect that employees are always wanting to learn and grow so that when a position opens up we can move someone up to fill that position.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    Performance is always monitored and team members are given feedback good or bad as needed.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    Lift Safety Training and AC609 (working with A/C systems) are required.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    Younger technicians in an apprenticeship will work side by side with their mentor and learn what is done and why to diagnose and repair customer concerns.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    We support Special Olympics, Grand Junction Rockies, lunch programs for school kids during the summer time as well as many other local events and non-profits.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    We recruit from the local trade schools and try to bring more talent into the industry.

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    Growing and prospering as we are now. We have been here since 1912 and will continue the business practices that have kept us around this long.

  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    We do have an application form that is very standard. It takes about 10-15 minutes to fill it out.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    Yes, we don't want to waste anyone's time so if we can visit over the phone and then take the next step to set up a in-person interview if needed.

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    Asking questions about experience and pay. Answer any questions the candidate might have. We may ask how you would handle different situations and explain what is expected from our employees.

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    We have all applicants take a pre-employment physical to make sure they are physically able to perform needed tasks without getting hurt. We also check driving records and make sure our insurance will cover the applicant to drive vehicles on and off the lot.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    No skill assessment other than asking questions.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    7-10 days

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

    7-14 days

  • A Level Technician
    Pay Range: $80,000 - $130,000/year

    Obtain all or most manufacturer certifications. Perform all repairs, diagnostics and recalls with little or no comebacks and have at least 5 years of experience.

  • B Level Technician
    Pay Range: $60,000 - $80,000/year

    Perform more advanced diagnostics on vehicles such as fluid leaks, electrical, brakes, steering and suspension systems and perform recalls with little to no comebacks. Must have at least 3 years experience.

  • C Level Technician
    Pay Range: $40,000 - $60,000/year

    Perform minor diagnostics on vehicles such as fluid leaks, basic electrical, brakes, steering and suspension systems and also perform recalls.

  • Lube Technician
    Pay Range: $30,000 - $45,000/year ($14.42 - $21.63/hr)
    ($14.42 - $21.63/hr)

    Perform Engine Oil and Filter changes, Rotate Tires, Inspect Brakes and Perform Multipoint Inspections. Replace Brakes, Batteries and Tires, as well as other fluid exchanges.

  • Service Advisor
    Pay Range: $40,000 - $120,000/year

    Check in vehicles for service by performing vehicle walk around noting any damages and needed services, document all customer concerns. Keep customer informed of the status of their vehicle while it is in the shop. Estimate repair work and sell as needed. Maintain good customer satisfaction scores and repour with customers. Perform active delivery when vehicle is done explaining work and charges. Notify customers when special order parts arrive, answer the phone and schedule service appointments.

  • Student Tech / Apprentice
    Pay Range: $30,000 - $45,000/hour

    Work under an A Level technician to learn the skills needed to be a technician.

Health Insurance Offered Eligible after 1 full month of employment. Western Slope Auto pays 68% of Health Insurance cost. Employee pays the other 32%. We also offer pre-tax and post tax Health Savings Accounts through American Fidelity
Dental Insurance Offered Eligible after 1 full month of employment. Employee is responsible for the full cost of dental insurance.
Vision Insurance Offered Open Enrollment is during November and December- Effective Date January 1st. Employee is responsible for the cost of vision insurance.
Retirement Plan Offered 401k Eligible after 1 full month of employment. Western Slope Auto will match 2% after one full year of employment. Employee must contribute 2% or more to get the match.
Sick Leave Offered 48 hours of sick pay per year available at the time of hire for all employees.
Vacation Offered Earn one day per full month of employment up to 5 days total. Available to use January 1st the following year of hire, but must wait to use after 6 full months of employment.
Paid Holidays Offered 5 Paid Holidays per year. Eligible after 6 month of employment.
ST / LT Disability Offered Eligible after 1 full month of employment through American Fidelity
Life Insurance Offered Eligible after 1 full month of employment through American Fidelity. Plus all employees are given a free $10,000 life insurance policy through American United Life Insurance Company.
Uniforms Offered Uniforms are provided and cleaned at no cost to the employee.
Other Offered Western Slope Auto offers additional insurance coverages such as cancer, accident, life, critical illness, Hospital Indemnity and Administers both our Health Savings Accounts and Flex Medical Spending Accounts.
