Hiring Process
  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    Applications can be obtained at the dealership or online at toyotaofpuyallup.com. They should take 10-15 minutes to complete.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    Sometimes.

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    A meeting with the hiring manager.

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    We drug test all applicants. All applicants are also required to have a clean driving record.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    Depending on the position, we may review work history and certification standing with Toyota.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    Typically a week or less.

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

    Already employed applicants will remain anonymous if desired. We respect currently employed applicants providing a two week notice.

  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    Overhead heaters with automatic shop doors.

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    We have 60 employees in our Service Department, 27 of which are technicians or express maintenance technicians. We have ample lot attendant staffing.

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    We are open Monday-Saturday from 7:30 am to 6 pm. Our technicians generally work from 7:45 - 5.

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    All basic tools are provided for express maintenance techs. Shop technicians need to provide their own tools. We provide custom tool boxes, work benches, and carts.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    We have two lunch rooms, refrigerators, microwaves, complimentary coffee, and vending machine access.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    23 bays in the shop; 2 are lube "pit" style bays. We also have a Hunter Alignment machine in one of our bays.

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    3300

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    Service advisors order parts for all needed repairs.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    Case by case basis with management approval only.

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    Family atmosphere, monthly hosted luncheons, recognition of employee anniversaries and birthdays, team-spirited events to include Blue Friday, Halloween, and other festivities.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    Training is offered directly through Toyota via online "E-Modules" and in-person learning. Technicians are required to certify through ASE, but registration fees are reimbursed by the dealership. There is no out of pocket expense to technicians for training or ASE.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    We offer excellent opportunities for advancement with an easy to understand career map, which includes compensation based on certification. The more you learn, the more you earn!

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    We provide employee reviews annually.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    Periodic safety training is required. We work with a Compliance company to ensure all safety measures are being followed and have an on-site safety committee that meets bi-monthly.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    Technicians stalls are staggered so younger techs work next to senior techs. Senior techs are encouraged to mentor when needed and are even compensated if they assist co-workers.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    We are full supporters of the Toyota T-Ten program! We support local food banks, Go Red for Women, Meals for Wheels, and many other local charities.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    We are partnered with our local high school, Puyallup High, to present to automotive students and allow mentoring.

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    Growing! Finding new products to install! Conquering new technology!

  • A Level Technician
    Pay Range: $75,000 - $110,000/year

    Flat Rate position. Toyota & ASE Certification driven hourly rates.

  • B Level Technician
    Pay Range: $60,000 - $75,000/year

    Flat Rate position. Toyota & ASE Certification driven hourly rates.

  • C Level Technician
    Pay Range: $35,000 - $50,000/year

    Straight Hourly or Flat Rate position, depending on certification level. Toyota & ASE Certification driven hourly rates.

  • Lube Technician
    Pay Range: $30,000 - $35,000/year

    Straight Hourly position plus bonus opportunities. Toyota & ASE Certification driven hourly rates.
