Hi, I'm Mike Wright. I am the owner of RM Automotive. I started this business to fill a need in the valley. I am very proud of the fact that, with my wife Nancy, we have been servicing the San Fernando valley in the same location for 20 years. I wanted to give our customers the specialized auto repair and service for Asian import vehicles only. I wanted to make our service high quality and deliver better service than the dealerships and the other independents that don't specialize. I have been fortunate to service Asian imports, especially the Honda and Toyota brand of vehicles for over 30 years.

Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

No, but the new RM (coming in 2021) will be.
What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

One shop foreman and 3 to 4 technicians
What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Shop hours are M-F 7:30 to 6:00 Technician hours are 8:00 to 5:00 M-F or when the last car is finished. Weekends are for family!
What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

All specialty shop tools are provided by RM Automotive.
What type of break room facility is provided?

In the new RM Automotive(coming in 2021), there will be a heated and air conditioned break room.
How many bays does your shop have?

We have 5 lifts and 1 flat stall. The new RM(coming in 2021) will have 10 lifts.
How many repair orders do you average per month?

200-250
What is your parts ordering process?

Most parts are ordered online through vendors that have multiple deliveries per day.
What is your policy on side work?

No side work in shop. We have parts policy for tech's who are doing side work.
Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

We have a digital courtesy check process that techs need to buy into. They must see the value for the customer, the tech and the shop. We have multiple policies in place for maximum efficiency.

Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

All employees are encouraged to become ASE certified. All ASE test fees will be reimbursed to employee after proof of passing. We offer training seminars free of charge to all employees through WorldPac Training Institute and various local vendors.
Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

Career advancement is always available to an employee that shows a passion for the business and the industry.
Can you describe your performance review process?

All employees job performance is reviewed after 90 day probation period. After probation period, all employees job performance is reviewed quarterly.
What type of safety training is required?

All safety training is explained in the employee handbook.
Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Our shop foreman is encouraged to train younger techs to help them to become more experienced technicians.
How does your shop get involved with the local community?

Every Thanksgiving our employees volunteer their time to help deliver 3,000 turkey dinners to local school families in need. We have sponsored multiple school and little league teams over the years. We participate in a Holiday Season book and toy drive that provides gifts to children in need.
Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

Mike is on the advisory board for the Pierce College Automotive Technology Department
Where do you see the shop in five years?

RM Automotive is in the process of building a brand new location that we hope to open in early 2021. In 5 years we hope to be still be providing a quality repair at a price that is fair, at a location that will be bigger and better for all employees and our valued customers.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Yes we have application form. Typical time to complete is under 30 minutes

Yes. Mike the owner screens all candidates before in-person interview
What do your in-person interviews entail?

Not only are we looking for the correct skills for the position, but we also are looking for someone who wants to be part of our team. So we can all be successful.

There is a verbal skills assessment that grades each candidate as a journeyman or apprentice. From there each candidate will be asked questions needed for skill level of job opening

A Level Technician
Pay Range: $80,000 - $100,000/year

All technicians have a base rate plus a flag rate based on labor hours billed.
B Level Technician
Pay Range: $50,000 - $55,000/year
