About Us

Alan Symmes worked as an automotive technician for 13 years before opening the doors at Revolution Automotive Services, Inc. in August of 2012. His career started at a dealership and quickly led to independent repair shops, he was not a fan of the way dealers treated their customers and employees. He started his own business on the belief that a BMW repair shop could be a positive experience for the customer AND employees. “I always wanted to open my own auto repair shop…but not a regular shop. I wanted to revolutionize the experience. A place that people want to be. It’s not just about BMW repairs, Mercedes repairs, Audi repairs, etc. It’s about creating the best possible experience for our clients and a better quality of life for our employees.”-Alan Symmes Once opened, Revolution grew quickly! Starting out in 1 bay in August 2012, subleased from another business, Revolution moved next door into a three-bay shop by the end of the year. In May 2015, they expanded to take over two bays in the building next door. Then in January 2017 the company completed their third expansion to connect the two buildings and create the shop you see today. Along the way, this business has not only grown in square footage but with tooling, equipment and employees as well. Revolution Automotive Services, Inc. is the only independent repair shop in the area that you will find currently using factory diagnostic systems for each of the 5 brands they service. BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Porsche and Mini Cooper Our technicians are all ASE Certified Master Technicians and they attend training multiple times a year staying up to date with the cars as they evolve. You will not find more educated technicians than we have here at Revolution Automotive Services, Inc. All our staff is trained and tested in their area of expertise. Because we invest so much in our employees and provide such a positive work environment, we can retain some of the best talent in the industry. As for the customer experience, we aim to WOW! We enjoy going above and beyond for our clients. We chuckle when a new client is shocked to find their car sparkling clean inside and out when they pick it up. We enjoy conversation following the electronic vehicle inspection they get in a text or email that contains actual pictures of their car with detailed recommendations. It’s not expected of a small business. We take what large fancy dealerships are offering, do it better and put our hearts into it. We care about our clients. They feel comfortable here working with us and this is very important.

  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    We do and it's only 3 pages.

    We getting to know you and present our company and culture to you to see if it will be a good fit.

    We do background checks, pre employment drug screening

    Not usually. We will have some technical questions to test you but we are more focused on the right cultural fit for our team. We can train the rest.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    Typically within a week you will know.

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

    This depends on the applicant. We would expect they would offer their currently employer the customary 2 weeks notice and we are typically ready to have them onboard right away.

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

    We have always paid for technicians tool boxes to be moved to our shop. Many times when you give your notice, your current employer will ask you to leave or in some cases it can become a hostile work environment. If you need to leave early, we will make arrangements to have your tool box moved ASAP

  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    The shop is heated and air conditioned!

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    6 people on the team at this time

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    We're open Monday - Friday 7:30am-5:30pm Everyone takes a 1 hour lunch.

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    We provide all scan tools, special tools, scopes and many other types of equipment for servicing Euro cars. This is a very well equipped shop. If you need it and we don't have it, it will be purchased.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    At this time, there is not a designated break room. However, we are always growing and that is planned for our next expansion.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    7 bays

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    100 or so car count per month at this time. The

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    Tech writes up what parts are needed and the Service Advisor orders them.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    Techs are allowed to work on their own and family vehicles in the shop during off hours. "Side work" is not allowed in the shop. You need to do that at home.

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    Our shop is clean, organized and comfortable to work in. The company culture is designed to ensure that everyone succeeds. We all help each other and we all pitch in where needed to ensure the job is done to it best and the customer has a 5 star experience.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    We encourage and require everyone to attend training. We pay for the courses, pay you to attend them and pay for any travel expenses.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    We always promote from within. Everyone has grown within this company.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    We don't do performance reviews. No one likes to have their annual review. Instead we use an ongoing coaching method to ensure that the company and the employee are getting what they need from your employment here.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    Of course OSHA compliance training is required. In addition, everyone is given safety training as part of the on-boarding process.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    Everyone helps everyone here. We all get a piece of the pie in our pay so there is no inhibitions to taking the time to help others. As far as apprentice training, we usually assign the apprentice to a tech but this needs to be a mutual agreement for both the tech and the apprentice.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    We take part in the annual local "Norwood Day". We participate in the annual Brakes for Breasts fund raiser. We also actively seek out a family or person in need to be able to help each year. We literally set aside a budget to help a family in need each year. We are also very open to new ideas should you have some.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    As of now, we do not, however, we intend to in the near future.

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    In five years we will have a second location and be offering our great services and opportunities to multiple communities.

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

    Every person who has come to work here has grown within this company. Everyone has had excellent training and great opportunities for personal and professional growth.

  • A Level Technician
    - Pay Range: $60,000 - $120,000/year

    We use a hybrid pay plan so you are paid for the time you are here and the hours you produce. We also work with each tech to make sure the pay plan will work for them and fit their needs and the shops needs.

  • B Level Technician
    - Pay Range: $50,000 - $100,000/year

    We use a hybrid pay plan so you are paid for the time you are here and the hours you produce. We also work with each tech to make sure the pay plan will work for them and fit their needs and the shops needs.

  • C Level Technician
    - Pay Range: $35,000 - $70,000/year

    We use a hybrid pay plan so you are paid for the time you are here and the hours you produce. We also work with each tech to make sure the pay plan will work for them and fit their needs and the shops needs.

  • Service Advisor
    - Pay Range: $40,000 - $120,000/year

    Service advisors are paid based on sales. So, if you can sell, you can make a lot of money!

  • Student Tech / Apprentice
    - Pay Range: $13 - $20/hour
