  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    Our shop is not air conditioned, however we do tend to have a good breeze most of the time. We supplement that with fans in the summer and diesel heaters in the winter.

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    We are currently a tad short handed so we have 6 current technicians and 2 service advisors. We typically operate with 8-10 technicians and 2 advisors.

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    The service advisor's day starts at 7:30am and ends at 6pm. Technicians are here from 8am - 6pm Monday - Friday. Our advisors and technicians rotate on our Saturday schedule and we are open 8am - 1pm. Sundays we are closed

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    We have many Chrysler special tools available for the techs to use. On top of that we have 6 computers, a snap on alignment machine, and multiple other tools and machines to help them take care of our customer's vehicles.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    We do not currently have a dedicated break room area, but it is one of the things on my list.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    20

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    450

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    If we do not currently have the needed parts in stock then the majority of them are available the next day from our Dallas warehouse. We also have the ability to reach out to other dealers that have the correct parts to help expedite the process if needed.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    There is no side work allowed on the property.

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    We are a very team oriented shop, and we help each other out as much as possible. The atmosphere is laid back and every so often we will order breakfast or lunch for the whole crew to show them appreciation for all their effort.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    We are always encouraging our employees to continue their training through Chrysler and we do pay for that training.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    Our lube techs have the ability to become line techs and could become our next senior tech. It all depends on their work ethic, drive, and passion to make this job into a career. I want all my employees to be successful and to become master techs.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    Periodic reviews are done at the service manager's discretion.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    Upon hire we have online safety training that must be completed. Every year or so their will be continued education courses to update any content.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    Here at Port Lavaca Dodge we all work together if needed to take care of the customers. That includes the Service Manager going into the shop and working along side the technicians.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    We periodically help sponsor local events.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    not currently

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    The sky is the limit. I believe in 5 years we will be the dealership that customers will pass 3 other dealerships to bring their car to just so we can work on them. We treat them with respect and try to do our very best for each and every one of them.

  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    We do have actual applications, and they typically take about 10-15 minutes to complete.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    I do not typically phone screen applicants before in person interviews..

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    I like to spend a few minutes getting to know the applicant, asking about them and their history about what brought them to apply at Port Lavaca Dodge. Then I try to tell them what we are looking for in a new hire and the kind of culture we are trying to create. I will then review the application with them and go through any other follow up questions that I or the applicant might have.

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    We do have a 3rd party company that completes our back ground checks and then refers the applicants on where to go to have drug test taken.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    Not typically, for experienced technicians I do look at there training levels in Chrysler.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    An answer will normally happen within a few days after the interview.

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

    Usually this process takes about 1 week.

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

    I am always looking for self motivated, honest, and hard working employees. Those traits are ultimately what help me to choose between candidates.

    Pay Range: $35,000 - $50,000/year ($16.83 - $24.04/hr)

  • Lube Technician
    Pay Range: $25,000 - $35,000/year ($12.02 - $16.83/hr)

  • Service Advisor
    Pay Range: $60,000 - $80,000/year

    ADVISORS ARE PAID PERCENTAGES BASED ON THE AMOUNT OF GROSS PROFIT THAT THEY SELL. THE PERCENTAGE CHANGES BETWEEN 5-12% DEPENDING ON IF THE SALES ARE CUSTOMER PAY, INTERNAL, OR WARRANTY. WE ARE PAID WEEKLY

Health Insurance Offered Health insurance is available after 90 days of employment. Entrust is our insurance provider, and the company pays a portion of the premium.
Dental Insurance Offered We have dental insurance through Entrust which is available after 90 days of employment. The company pays a portion of the premium.
Vision Insurance Offered We have vision insurance through Entrust which is available after 90 days of employment. The company pays a portion of the premium.
Retirement Plan Offered We offer a 401k with a employer match of 25 cents for every dollar invested up to 5%. This is offered through July Services.
Sick Leave Not Offered We do not offer any sick pay.
Vacation Offered After 6 months of employment u get 5 days vacation which can be used for vacation or sick days. After 1 year you get 10 days.
Paid Holidays Offered We have 5 paid holidays every year, they are as follows: Christmas Day Thanksgiving New Years Day July 4th Labor day
ST / LT Disability Offered Short and Long term disability are both offered through Allstate
Life Insurance Offered Life insurance is offered through Allstate
Uniforms Offered Uniforms are provided at a small weekly cleaning cost. We use Cintas for all our uniform needs.
