About Us

Phil's Pro Auto Service is a family owned general repair shop that was started in 1985. We moved into our current building in October of 2014 after selling our long term location in Garden City, CO. We are Greeley's oldest AAA approved repair facility. Our focus has always been to make sure our customers cars are reliable and ready for them when needed. To that end we offer our customers the benefit of digital inspections, loaner cars, a clean and inviting waiting area and a 3yr 36k mile warranty on most repairs. WE DO NOT work Saturdays. Public shop hours are 7:30 am to 5:30 pm M-F and techs are scheduled from 8 am to 5 pm. Each tech has their own computer station and a tablet to work from. We do not service Euro vehicles such as Mercedes or BMW and only do a small amount of VW/Audi service.

Hiring Process
  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    The shop is heated via radiant heaters and an oil burning furnace. During the summer we have multiple portacoolers and due to the layout of the shop often have a decent breeze that goes through the shop.

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    The current staff size is 10 and will remain around that size.

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    Shop hours are 7:30am to 5:30pm. Shift times for techs are 8-5 M-F. Shop Production Manager shift is 7:30am-5pm M-F.

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    We have three A/C machines (two R134A and one 1234YF), multiple battery charges, smoke machine, emissions analyzer, multiple BG fluid machines, Autel Ultra, ProCut brake lathe, parts washer (one heater water and one solvent), Snap On Verus, alignment machine.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    The shop provides a break room and has an upstairs training room / meeting space. This can also be used to a quieter space for lunch.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    11 total bays 10 with two post lifts 1 with a 4 post alignment rack

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    250 to 320 depending on tech count and size of jobs. We average around $500 ARO +.

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    All jobs beyond the initial appointment are estimated and ordered by the Production Manager. Any parts related issues is handled by that person to give the techs fast response time in any issues that arise when working on a vehicle.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    We do not promote side work on vehicles unless it is family or personal.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    We offer "in house" training and professional advancement training for technicians and Service Advisors. We offer online and in person based training options. We also go to trade shows as a team.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    We believe in advancing from within our team whenever possible. The goal is to keep long term members as part of our team. Two of our team members have 30 years together of tenure!

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    Performance reviews are done at minimum once a year as a sit down meeting with a manager however we consistently provide feedback, and goals.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    Safety training is part of on boarding and reviewed at meetings once a month.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    We have a shop Forman that is responsible for helping grow our younger techs and helping them when they need it. We are an hourly shop and that helps to encourage team work.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    We offer the shop services discounted to W2W and social services. The shop also sponsors multiple things in the community.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    Phil is on the board at Aims for their automotive program

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    In the next 5 years it is likely the shop will open a second location out west.

  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    We begin our hiring process with reviewing of a resume. Please don't hesitate to put one together, even a very basic resume is generally enough to begin. One thing that we do encourage is a well written cover letter explaining whom you are at work, outside of work, and why you should be considered for a position on our team.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    We do screen applicants by phone first. After that process we will set up time for in person.

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    In-person interviews typically occur at our dealership where the potential hire will sit down with multiple management personnel. Typically the Service Manager and Owner is present for in-person interviews. A few basic questions are asked, including what the potential hire is looking for in the job, what hours and days he or she can work, and what he or she values in a job.

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    Background tests are performed. Drug test are mandated anytime a team member gets hurt or is involved in a accident.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    Our managers will ask potential technician candidates to complete a proficiency test that helps us understand your base knowledge.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    We generally take up to 1-2 weeks completing the process

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

    Up to 1-2 weeks

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

    As we move along through the interviewing process, one of our final processes is a paid working interview. The working interview could be anywhere from a few hours to a few days (depending on assessment needs and candidate availability).

  • A Level Technician
    Pay Range: $70,000 - $120,000/year ($33.65 - $57.69/hr)

    We sell jobs at "Book Time" plus 20% to help our technicians get paid for the actual time it takes. We aren't afraid to charge extra for frozen parts and time needed beyond the "book" Our Master Technicians average 85% - 130% efficiency! We also pay hourly with bonuses for hours sold, and parts sold. We feel this is more fair than book time and a flate rate system but does still encourage productivity.

  • B Level Technician
    Pay Range: $50,000 - $80,000/year ($24.04 - $38.46/hr)

    We sell jobs at "Book Time" plus 20% to help our technicians get paid for the actual time it takes. We aren't afraid to charge extra for frozen parts and time needed beyond the "book" Our B Technicians average 80% - 120% efficiency! We also pay hourly with bonuses for hours sold, and parts sold. We feel this is more fair than book time and a pure flate rate system but does still encourage productivity.

  • C Level Technician
    Pay Range: $40,000 - $60,000/year ($19.23 - $28.85/hr)

    We sell jobs at "Book Time" plus 20% to help our technicians get paid for the actual time it takes. We aren't afraid to charge extra for frozen parts and time needed beyond the "book" Our C Technicians average 60% - 100% efficiency! We also pay hourly with bonuses for hours sold, and parts sold. We feel this is more fair than book time and a pure flate rate system but does still encourage productivity.

  • Lube Technician
    Pay Range: $35,000 - $45,000/year ($16.83 - $21.63/hr)

    Lube techs are often straight out of tech school that we will work with to grow into higher level positions.

  • Service Advisor
    Pay Range: $40,000 - $90,000/year ($19.23 - $43.27/hr)

    Service Advisors are valued part of our team and our Customers. We will train, coach and provide carrier advancement opportunities for our Sales Team! We offer training at world class training facilities, local training classes and virtual classes all for the advancement of your carrier skills! Masters training is a $7,000 investment we will make in the right advisor.

  • Service Manager
    Pay Range: $80,000 - $120,000/year ($38.46 - $57.69/hr)

  • Student Tech / Apprentice
    Pay Range: $16 - $18/hour

    Apprentice techs are "partnered" with one of our Master Technicians for training. We have a 12 month program with a toolbox packed with tools included. After the 12 month program you get to keep the tools and the box!

Health Insurance Offered The company provides Health Insurance with more than one plan to chose from, paying $450 per month of the individual or family premium. We also provide a HSA with $25 per month put in that account.
Dental Insurance Offered Dental insurance is offered with the company paying up to $40 per month towards the premium of the plan the employee chooses.
Vision Insurance Offered Vision insurance is available. The employee is responsible for the premium of the plan they choose. Plans are not very expensive.
Retirement Plan Offered The company provides a simple IRA plan with a 3 percent match.
Sick Leave Offered The company provides sick leave as specified by current Colorado law. Employees earn one hour of leave for every thirty they work. Maximum accrual is 48 hours per year.
Vacation Offered Paid vacation leave is provided based on tenure. One week after 1 year, two weeks after 3 years and 3 weeks after 8 years. Time may be accumulated and does not expire. It can also be used by the day or half day.
Paid Holidays Offered The company priovides 7 paid holidays per year. New years day, Memorial day, July 4th, Labor day, Thanksgiving (2 days) and Christmas.
ST / LT Disability Offered Short and long term disability are provided by the company. There is increased options available for additional premiums.
Life Insurance Offered Company provides 25,000 in life insurance to each employee at no cost to the employee.
Uniforms Offered Company provided pants, shirts and coats and weekly laundering.
