Welcome to Phil’s Car Care! We are proud to be a NAPA Gold Auto Care Center. This distinction is only given to less than 1% of all NAPA Auto Care Centers in North America. In addition we are an AAA and RepairPal authorized repair facility. We were founded in 1998 Porter, TX. As such, we have been meeting the needs of the greater NorthEast Houston area for over 32 years. Our success is due in large part to our commitment to integrity and always putting customers' needs first. Our staff is the foundation of our business and this is why we are willing to invest in them to ensure their success. We strive to give our team members all the tools and resources needed to get the job done right. Our shop is family friendly, with an easy going work environment. Hiring Process
  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    Floor heaters, and large fans.

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    2-3 Tech 1 Service Advisor 1 Owner 1 Administrative

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    7:30-6:00 (Monday-Friday) 9:00-3:00 (Saturday)

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    All specialty tools, all major equipment, scanners

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    Fridge, microwave, coffee maker, table, chairs

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    8 lifts 4 flat

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    100

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    Our service advisor will do a walk around with the customer and go through concerns. They will then write up the repair order and give it to one of our technicians to review. The tech will then finish the inspection and give the service advisor the final order. The service advisor will then write up the order, get the information to the customer, and order the parts needed for all repairs.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    Personal vehicles only.

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    We are a family friendly, team orientated shop that has been in business for over 32 years.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    Technicians are always encouraged to continue their training and advance their skill set. There is a lot of NAPA training out there that we participate in, and ASE's are recommended as well.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    Being a mom and pop shop we are limited positions available. That being said, we always want our techs to achieve their career goals. When positions come open hiring within is always the first option. They always have the opportunity to grow as a tech through training which will also help with their compensation.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    No formal review process currently, but we are looking at putting one into place.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    Nothing formal, but we are looking at incorporating a safety policy.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    Team work is a must in our shop. Our techs always work together, and if questions arise they will help each other through repairs. Experienced technicians are available to answer any additional questions as well.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    We participate in our local food bank called Mission Northeast and advertise for them on our Facebook page. We also help with toys for tots, and offer discounts for our clients who participate.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    We have worked with Lonestar Automotive and their apprentice program.

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    Our goal is keep with our industry in regards to the ever changing technology. Keeping our technicians interested and motivated to obtain certifications, and go to trainings is a must for that. As an owner, working more on the business not in the business is a personal goal I look to achieve as well.

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

    We provide a starter tool kit available for our new technicians at a minimal cost compared to what you will be receiving.

  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    Basic application, only takes a couple of minutes to complete.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    There is a light phone screen done by the owner, or service advisor. Discussion includes candidates experience, tool collection, certifications, and some hypothetical's discussion about repairs.

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    In-person interviews are done by the owner. We dive deeper into experience, background, certifications, and what the technicians career goals might look like.

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    No

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    No formal skills assessment. Skill sets are discussed in the interview process and through hypothetical situations.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    A day or two

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

  • A Level Technician
    Pay Range: $50,000 - $80,000/year

    Pay is based on experience and ability. We have a tiered flat rate system, depending on hours booked it will put you in a different tier of pay. A-Level Techs can do very well with our payment structure if they're willing to bill and work the hours.

  • B Level Technician
    Pay Range: $40,000 - $65,000/year

    Pay is based on experience and ability. We have a tiered flat rate system, depending on hours booked it will put you in a different tier of pay. A-Level Techs can do very well with our payment structure if they're willing to bill and work the hours.
