The shop is heated.
The team consists of 1 shop manager, 8 mechanics, 2 purchasing agents, and 1 maintenance tracker.
Shifts are 10 hours, 5 days/week (Monday-Friday). Shifts run 7am-5pm with a 30-minute lunch and two 15-minute breaks. In December, our shop is closed the last 2 weeks of the month.
Our shop has cranes, rigging and lifting straps and chains, forklifts, and electronic testing equipment. Shop will provided 1 inch drive and larger sockets and impacts. While techs must provide their own toolbox and tools, we provide a tool allowance based on the number of years they have worked for the company (up to $50/week)!
The break room is located on the 2nd floor, with a furnished kitchen meant for relaxing. In addition we have outdoor smoking areas.
One extremely large bay for heavy equipment (can fit up to four pieces of heavy equipment), two bays for light duty vehicles, and two bays for OTR trucks. We have a separate building for welding and an outside steam bay.
Depends on the season, typically 30 - 40 a month for light vehicle mechanics and 6 - 8 a month for the heavy equipment mechanics.
Mechanics research the parts number when available, fill out a Parts Request form and submit it to the shop manager. The shop manager will review the Parts Request form, sign off and send it to the Purchasing Department.
Mechanics may hold outside employment in a non-related business or profession as long as it does not affect the performance of their job or schedule. Oftedal's office space, equipment, and materials are not to be used for outside employment.
Have five dealer level diagnostic equipment and 60 ton overhead cranes.
Our company will send mechanics to classes (i.e. CAT, John Deere) for refresher training on engines or computers. Safety first! We start our mornings with a safety meeting, discussing prevalent topics to maintain and grow a strong safety culture. Followed by Stretch N Bend exercises to avoid injuries.
We always seek to promote from within the company! Our company will support employees to gain training and grow into roles that catch their interest.
Conducted annually, reviews will be a discussion with the shop manager to review areas of growth or opportunities for improvement.
First Aid/CPR training is offered in-house. There is also task training for specific equipment.
We provide younger/newer mechanics with in-house training and assistance. Especially during our busy season, newer mechanics will be pulled into tasks to learn more about the work and equipment whenever possible.
We run an annual car show, which is a fundraiser for our college scholarship! We also work with high school students to visit our shop for a tour and presentation about the industry on a yearly basis.

Steady on course with a focus on diving deeper into technology! Creating custom parts and processes to improve current heavy equipment used by the company. The Casper Shop Mechanics has successful rebuilt several pieces of equipment, most recently a D9L dozer.

In-person interview entail meeting with the Shop Manager and Foreman to discuss the candidate's experience, work schedule, compensation, and benefits offered with the position. There may also be a tour of the shop if time permits.
Once a candidate has been offered a position Oftedal will conduct a drug and alcohol screening and motor vehicle record checks. We may inquire about background information in some circumstances.
Will have mock diagnosis and troubleshooting tests done in the shop. If the candidate has their CDL, we will conduct a fitness test after the position has been offered.

Diagnose, troubleshoot, service and repair company heavy equipment. Remove, repair, or replace components on engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, air systems, fuel systems, transmissions and other powertrain related systems. Working with a variety of tools, dismantle, rebuild, adjust and repair primary systems (drive train, hydraulic, fuel, air, brake, pneumatic, electrical, steering, suspension, exhaust) on mobile heavy equipment and highway-legal trucks and trailers. Provide shop foreman time estimates, inventory of parts or special tools required to complete assigned projects. Using an established checklist, prove all repairs and workmanship done on machines, trucks or other equipment were properly completed and the item is fully operational and prepared to mobilize for productive work. Complete and submit accurate work orders. Perform minor fabrication, alterations and repairs to equipment using MIG, TIG and oxygen/acetylene welding and cutting equipment. Operate various equipment including forklifts, trucks and heavy equipment. Read and understand oil reference guides, cross-reference, and heavy equipment manuals. Efficiently use a computer to access manufactures guides and service manuals. Requirements: Minimum Class B, CDL license with a HAZMAT endorsement with at least 5 years’ clean motor vehicle record. Minimum 5 years’ verifiable experience diagnosing and repairing mobile heavy equipment, heavy highway trucks and trailers in a shop or field setting. Relevant manufacture and/or industry association certifications and/or degree from accredited trade school, college or university. Pass pre-employment drug screening and a fitness test.
