The shop is heated. In fact, we had the furnace tuned up in March. It's nice and warm. The shop is not Air Conditioned, but its surprisingly more comfortable than you would think.
Depending on the time about 3-4 other techs of various experiences. It's a fun welcoming group.
The shop is open early in the AM and into the evening. We can offer flexibility on your shift.
The shop will provide the higher cost specialty tools.
Its well lit and climate controlled. A picture has been included.
It's really one huge room with 3 overhead doors. You will have plenty of room to work.
This is varied as the school year progresses. Its hourly and not flat rate. You will have the time to do the job correctly, and there will always be another bus to be repaired.
The mechanic asks the Shop Manager to order.
We often have overtime available to earn more. We foster an environment of life and work balance and encourage our techs to enjoy their families, hobbies and interests in their time off from work.
Currently we offer training from the manufacture. We are always on the look for relevant training.
We promote from within whenever an internal candidate fit our need. The sky is the limit.
As we are growing, we recognize the need for a formal process and are creating one. We simply didn't need one as our repair needs were met by our techs.
We take safety very serious. We have monthly meetings to address safety.
Our senior techs are really great as mentoring. We have a number of home grown techs we are very proud of.
We transport the children of the community.
We recognize this is an area of improvement and are reviewing.
We see ourselves being the largest school bus provider in the region. we are already the best.
We do post our openings on our website and ask candidates to apply from there. We have many locations besides St Louis that might be a good fit also. The process takes a few minutes. This is the Link ->https://www.northamericacentral.com/current-openings/
We will work with the candidate on what best fits their needs. We identify that this is time out of their day that is uncompensated and make every effort to be respectful of that fact. Phone or Zoom type interviews are increasingly common. We do not require the camera to be "on".
First, we avoid the term "interview" in favor of looking at it as simply 2 people having a conversation about how they can help each other. I have a task that I need done, and I need to find the best person to perform that task, at a pay that I have available in my budget. Depending on the role, the candidate will meet with the Regional Maintenance Manager and the local level shop manager (Technician in charge or TIC for short) at minimum.
School bus mechanics shall be subject to a drug test and background check that fulfills the requirements of the Code of Federal and State Regulations. This required by law, and because of the priceless passengers we serve.
For mechanics we have a small quiz that is a catalyst for conversation.
A few days but that time is shrinking. We understand technicians have many choices available to them and we want to act accordingly.
A few days. We know great technicians will have many options presented quickly.
