Most of MPI technicians make repairs on their own time. MPI has no problem with this as long as those repairs are not MPI customers first and as long as the side work does not interfere with their normally scheduled shift.
The most unique part of MPI is that our customer base is mostly fleet. So there is no wasted time in waiting on customer approval. We are constantly growing and adapting to what our customers needs are. With servicing multiple fleets there is never a feeling of doing the same thing over and over again. Every day is something new.
MPI currently does not offer any sort of formal training. However it is something that we are considering in the future. We have no problem in assisting with adjusting scheduling if any technician wants to further their education.
MPI always tries to promote from within. Being a family owned company we are small enough that hard work and dedication is easily seen and readily appreciated. Most of our senior technicians have been with the company over 5 years or more and they will be the first to tell you that they have been shown appreciation through every step of their careers with MPI.
MPI considers the performance review process to be a daily undertaking. Our shop managers and senior level techs work hand in hand every day with all of our employees. We take quality and customer satisfaction very seriously. So our performance reviews are a continuous process throughout the day to day operation.
MPI does not require formal safety training to begin working in either shop. However, best safety practices are at the front of all our technicians minds every day. MPI's bonus structure is based around attendance and also safety. The safety of our technicians is one of the most important, if not they most important, parts of any day here at MPI.
Most of our senior technicians mentor less experienced technicians by having them assist on larger or more complex jobs, and in turn if the less experienced tech has a question during his or her job they typically seek out either a more experienced tech or the shop manager with their questions.
MPI currently works with local Habitat for Humanity and YMCA programs as well as many charitable donations to local high school sports programs and religious based programs.
MPI uses a program called Handshake that works with national and local colleges and trade schools. It introduces students to the automotive industry and gives those students the ability to touch base with MPI and our available entry level technician positions.
MPI is in a constant state of growth in both the Class 8 shop and the Automotive shop. Within the next couple of years we would like to sustain that growth, but most importantly to us is that we continue to service our customers with the same level of quality as they have come to know from MPI. Continuing to improve that level of customer care is our main focus for the future.
There is a formal application that needs filed out before someone can be hired. The application typically takes 5 to 10 minutes to complete
Yes. MPI always likes to have a phone conversation first, explain the position available, let the potential new hire ask as many questions as they would like, and talk about if this is something he or she is interested in moving forward with. MPI understands we are taking time away from the potential hire's personal life and we want to make sure we are as transparent as possible during this phone call so there is no surprises.
All in-person interviews are performed at the main office with the owner Mr.Miller, Mr.Choate from operations, and possibly the Service Manager of the potential hires perspective shop (if time allows). We always offer the potential hire to walk through the shop with Mr.Choate, meet some of the techs and get a good look at the shop so they can make an informed decision.
MPI performs background checks on all possible hires, which includes a driving record check. MPI also requires a drug screen to be passed before hiring any potential employee.
MPI does not perform a skills test.
MPI will reach out to you within 24 hours in either instance. MPI believes that it is professional courtesy to let everyone know where they stand and we also understand that a potential hire might have multiple options available to them for a new position. We would never want to get in the way of someone gaining another position if we were to turn them down.
MPI typically will interview a potential new hire within 3 to 5 business days, depending on employee's schedule and will let that person know within 24 hours after the in-person interview if we are going to offer them the position or not.
