  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    Shop is heated, but not air coditioned

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    We presently are two technicians and a service writer.

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    Shop hours are 9:00 am to 6:00 pm e.s.t. M-F and 9:00 am - 1:00 pm e.s.t. Sat

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    Shop provides all tools necessary for all work. Flush machines, A/C, Hunter alignment, scanners, torches, diagnostic equipment are all supplied. You can bring your toolbox or not bring your toolbox.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    No break room. Lunch is taken locally or in our office area.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    We have 6 bays. Two with lifts, one alignment rack, space for at least 3 more cars on the floor.

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    65-70 repair orders

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    After the technician completes a digital vehicle inspecion, it gets submitted to the service writer. The writer discusses the repair with the customer and orders all the necessary parts. The writer gives the tech a job ticket as soon as the work is sold.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    Side work is permitted after trust is earned by the technician. Not a short process, due to insurance liability, but not impossible, either.

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    Owner buys lunch every Friday for the team. We all eat together and discuss any important or entertaining issues.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    Yes. We offer as much training as a technician is willing to do. Shop pays for ASE certifications, Napa training classes,

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    There is always room to expand you knowledge and income at Mickey's Automotive. You can ramp up your pay with training or production. Achievers are welcome and we can help you up to the next level.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    We will do weekly reviews initially and then switch to monthly after 90 days.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    We will show new hires how to operate each piece of equipment safely. Goggles are provided and required for cutting, grinding and use of torches.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    Our A tech, Paul, will gladly mentor younger techs. He can demonstrate processes and answer any questions. Owner can assist with instructing, as I have 30 years repair experience as well.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    We have done Basic Car Care clinics for the community before the pandemic. We also donate to the local High School and have participated in Career Days and classroom visits at Sleepy Hollow HS.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    I would like to expand our shop layout to add more floor lifts. This will make production flow more easily with greater potential for billable hours. In five years we will be even farther ahead of the other shops in the area

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

    I am excited to build a more capable and efficient team to leave me more time to be involved in community.

  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    Yes, we have a paper application that takes about 15 minutes, depending on quantity of previous employers.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    Yes. I like to do a phone call first, going over the basics and then a formal, sit down interview.

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    i want to know about the potential hirees years of experience, where they have been, how long have they been with each one and do they fit the role I am looking to fill. I want them to sell themselves to me.

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    Yes.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    No. Skills are discussed and demonstrated during the 90 probationary period.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    Within a week

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

    Usually 2 to 3 weeks

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

    Just be yourself. Your talent and experience will speak for itself.

  • A Level Technician
    Pay Range: $59,000 - $74,000/year

    Pay is based on billable hours that the technician can produce per week. $59K salary is yearly figure for tech completing 30 billable hours per week for 52 weeks + signing bonus adds $77 per week. $64K figure is yearly salary for tech completing 45 hours per week for 52 weeks with $4K signing bonus included. $4000 Signing bonus is paid weekly for 1 year.

  • B Level Technician
    Pay Range: $44,000 - $64,000/year

    Pay is based on billable hours that the technician can produce per week. $40K salary is yearly figure for tech completing 25 billable hours per week for 52 weeks + signing bonus adds $77 per week. $64K figure is yearly salary for tech completing 35 hours per week for 52 weeks with $4K signing bonus included. $4000 Signing bonus is paid weekly for 1 year.
