Liberty Hoepfl Garage is one of the oldest operating auto repair shops in Houston, Texas. Founded in 1946, our philosophy has always been take care of the customers, give back to the community, and the business will take care of itself. Today, we have a brand new service facility to serve the Garden Oaks, Oak Forest and Heights community for the next generation. Liberty Hoepfl Garage has an A + rating with the BBB and is a AAA Approved Repair Facility. Our work family of automotive techs has a big heart to serve the community. Hiring Process
  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    There is a paper application that must be completed in-shop, and takes about 30 minutes. We encourage those interested to email us a resume in advance.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    The phone screening process entails a few basic questions (i.e. driving record, license, availability, reliable transportation, basic training, pay) to ensure candidates meet minimum requirements. This will last about 10 minutes.

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    In-person interview usually last 1 hour. They entail a 30-minute initial conversation with the manager(s), a tour, and the chance to talk with other staff in the shop.

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    Yes - all are done.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    An assessment is completed with the Shop Foreman.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    Usually within 1 day or so, as long as references & driving record can be checked.

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

    About 3 days

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

    We have a required tool list for our Lube Techs: Torque Wrench: Impact 1⁄2”; Oil filter wrenches; Screw Driver - sockets & extensions: 17-19 21-22 sockets 1⁄2”; 1⁄4” metric socket set 5.5-15; 3⁄8” metric socket set 8-19 Wrenches & Hand tools: 8-19 wrench set; Good quality Toyota oil filter wrenches Fender cover; Mechanic’s belt; Supplies for bleeding brakes - to be discussed

  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    Our shop has a GIANT fan to ventilate the shop in the warmer months, and is heated in the winter time. The office is air conditioned.

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    - 2 Service Advisors - 1 bookkeeper - 1 customer service rep - 1 shuttle driver - 1 Shop Foreman - 2 A Technicians - 2 C Technicians - 2 Lube Technicians

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    Monday-Friday 7:30 AM – 5:30 PM Saturday 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM -Alternating Saturday shifts -For A, B, and C techs, the schedule alternates 6 days one week and 5 days the next week - Lube techs work a 5 day/week schedule

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    A variety of specialty tools for various makes and models are provided.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    Refrigerator, microwave, table & chairs

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    13 lifts total -9 lifts in main shop; 2 additional lifts in classic car building; carport has 2 lifts

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    About 375-400

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    Online ordering available for parts as needed; most parts will arrive within 20 minutes.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    Not allowed

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    -Employee lunches provided on Saturday -Usually a weekly shop lunch or breakfast is provided to staff! -We strive to run a very smooth operation with a great working environment

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    Employees receive at least 40 hours of continuing education to make sure we stay on top of the ever-evolving trends and technology in the industry. We have sent techs to VISION and would encourage additional training. We will help cover costs of travel.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    We are looking for techs who want to grow with us in their career! Lube techs and C techs work with others higher up. We encourage shadowing & mentorship. Those techs are encouraged let us know what specific areas they want to focus on and grow in.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    Reviews and growth are an ongoing process. There is regular communication with team members and supervisors to build teamwork. Formal reviews are completed several months after hire, and then annually after that.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    Safety is #1 - our inspections are extremely careful and detailed. We make sure the car is always fixed correctly. Safety meetings held quarterly with the team.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    Lube techs and C techs work with others higher up as much as possible, thanks to our cohesive team structure. We encourage shadowing & mentorship. Those techs are encouraged let us know what specific areas they want to focus on and grow in.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    We are highly involved in the local community! We hold an annual fish fry to raise money for the M.S. Society and make a special oil change offer available in exchange for donations to Multiple Sclerosis. We participate in Car Pros for Kids, a program that raises money for Child Advocates by providing free oil changes in exchange for a donation during the month of February. We also support the Battleship Texas Foundation, an organization dedicated to preserving the TEXAS, the only battleship that survives from WWI and WWII. Other charities we support include the Garden Oaks Civic Club, Garden Oaks Montessori School, Durham Elementary School, YMCA on 34th Street, and the Oaks Dad’s Club.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    The owners of Liberty Hoepfl are members of the Automotive Service Association and sit on the advisory board for local schools and encourage students to enter the industry.

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    We would like to see every tech earn $100,000+ annually! We also would like to grow our business and continue to support the community. Eventually, we would like to have the ability to showcase the history of autos (i.e. historical tools) to all community members.

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

    We want our technicians to grow as a part of our team and become leaders, and will support that effort in a variety of means.

  • A Level Technician
    Pay Range: $75,000 - $85,000/year

    Flat rate. Compensation may be flexible based on experience, ASE certifications, tool investment, and references. A Level Technicians are expected to perform the more advanced inspection, testing and service procedures.

  • B Level Technician
    Pay Range: $50,000 - $60,000/year

    Flat rate. Compensation may be flexible based on experience, ASE certifications, tool investment, and references. B Level Technicians are expected to perform routine service and repair procedures.

  • C Level Technician
    Pay Range: $30,000 - $40,000/year

    Flat rate. Compensation may be flexible based on experience, ASE certifications, tool investment, and references. C Level Technicians are expected to perform basic service procedures.

  • Lube Technician
    Pay Range: $25,000 - $35,000/year

    Hourly pay. Compensation may be flexible based on experience, ASE certifications, tool investment, and references. Lube Technicians must be able to complete State Inspections and fluid services.

Health Insurance Offered Health insurance is provided through Patient Physician Cooperative. Employee pays $100/month for coverage. Will be effective after 60 days of employment.
Dental Insurance Not Offered
Vision Insurance Offered Vision insurance is provided FREE to employees through Aflac. Will be effective after 60 days of employment.
Retirement Plan Not Offered
Sick Leave Offered 1 week of time off earned after 1 year of employment. An additional 1 day is accrued each year, starting after 1 year of employment. Up to 2 weeks total can be earned.
Vacation Offered 1 week of time off earned after 1 year of employment. An additional 1 day is accrued each year, starting after 1 year of employment. Up to 2 weeks total can be earned.
Paid Holidays Offered There are 6 paid holidays: Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year's Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Memorial Day.
ST / LT Disability Offered Employee pays full cost.
Life Insurance Offered Employee pays full cost.
Uniforms Offered 11 pants & shirts are provided. Uniforms are free, but employees pay a small fee for laundering.
