It was incorporated in St. Louis County, Missouri on October 1st, 1962. Key Equipment offers three full-service facilities, St. Louis MO, Kansas City, KS, and Springfield, IL. All three facilities operate with a full staff of highly trained service professionals, parts specialists, and over the road technicians. Each of our facilities stock and handle parts for all our product lines and offer the capabilities to service everything we sell.

  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    The shop is heated.

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    The team size ranges from 6-10 professionals.

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    7:30 - 4:00

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    We provide all specialty and larger tools that are industry specific.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    We offer a full break room.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    6 bays.

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    20-30 RPO

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    We have a dedicated parts team for ordering parts for our technicians. They order parts for each job and assist with staging them in the technicians bay. We order parts from our vendors and our own parts inventory.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    No side work allowed in our facility. Working on your personal vehicles is allowed, if approved by the Director of Service.

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    We specialize in municipal and contractor equipment. Not every day is the same. We have a great family feel team that works well together between departments.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    All of our manufacturers offer continuing education classes both in person and online. Attendance of these are all company paid.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    As a growing company, we are always looking for internal employees to advance as we grow with their experience. We encourage employees to grow professionally to set themselves up for advancement within our company. As new positions become available, we pride ourselves from promoting from within.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    We conduct annual reviews with every employee. These reviews are based on fulfilling the requirements of the job description, personal development, supervisor feedback, and employee feedback.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    We require safety training on all shop and equipment procedures. These trainings are conducted internally. We also hold safety meetings with our PEO provider.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    Our seasoned Technicians, Service Manager, and our Director of Service train and mentor younger techs by working with them on projects and showing them best practices on working on the different pieces of equipment we bring through our doors.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    We work on a lot of municipal equipment that keeps our communities streets, sewers, and water clean and clear. We participate in a lot of community events either directly or with adding our equipment to parades and show and tells for students.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    We haven't yet.

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    We see our shop continuing to expand where we will be either expanding our current facility or purchasing a new facility.

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

    Our small company culture is important to us and our employees.

  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    We do not have an application form. We ask for a short resume and/or contact our Service Manager or Director of Service.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    We prefer a phone screening or an in-person screening before a formal interview.

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    A tour of our facilities. A review of what we work on. Meet and greet with our team. Review of the applicants knowledge and skill set.

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    Yes, we do require drug screenings and if you have a CDL, we are in a group for random selection for screenings.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    We do not, our decision is based on the in-person interview and a fit for our culture and the applicant.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    1-2 weeks

    Pay Range: $62,500 - $72,000/year ($30.05 - $34.62/hr)

    Senior Level Technician 10+ years experience in diesel and specialty equipment.

  • B Level Technician
    Pay Range: $52,000 - $62,500/year ($25.00 - $30.05/hr)
    ($25.00 - $30.05/hr)

    Mid-Experience Level Technician with 5-10 years experience in diesel and specialty equipment.

  • C Level Technician
    Pay Range: $42,000 - $52,000/year ($20.19 - $25.00/hr)
    ($20.19 - $25.00/hr)

    Entry Level Technician with 1-5 years experience in diesel and specialty equipment.

  • Student Tech / Apprentice
    Pay Range: $15 - $18/hour

    Student Technician or Summer Help for students getting into the trades.

Health Insurance Offered Benefits are offered to employees that work full time after a 60 day grace period. We offer multiple benefit packages through a PEO firm. The employee can pick from 6 plans offered ranging in deductible, co-insurance, and monthly cost to the employee. Key Equipment covers 75% of the monthly and annual cost.
Dental Insurance Offered Dental insurance is offered through United Healthcare Dental.
Vision Insurance Offered Vision insurance is offered through VSP.
Retirement Plan Offered Key Equipment offers a safe harbor savings plan. The employee can contribute after a 60 day grace period. Key Equipment will begin contributing 3% after a 12 month grace period regardless of personal contribution.
Sick Leave Offered Key Equipment offers 3 weeks of PTO time after a 60 day grace period. A week is added after 5 years of continued service. A week is added after 10 years of continued service. The PTO bank includes sick time, vacation time, and personal days to use at employee's discretion.
Vacation Offered Key Equipment offers 3 weeks of PTO time after a 60 day grace period. A week is added after 5 years of continued service. A week is added after 10 years of continued service. The PTO bank includes sick time, vacation time, and personal days to use at employee's discretion.
Paid Holidays Offered Key Equipment offers paid holiday on the following schedule: New Years Day Memorial Day Fourth of July Labor Day Thanksgiving Day Christmas Day
ST / LT Disability Offered 100% company paid ST/LT disability insurance for full time employees. It covers 60% of their regular earnings for the time out on leave.
Life Insurance Offered 100% company paid life insurance. Coverage amount is variable based on compensation. Employee paid voluntary life insurance is also available.
Uniforms Offered 100% company paid. An annual $125.00 steel toe boot allowance is also provided.
