Hiring Process
  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    It's heated in the summer and air conditioned in the winter... Joking aside, we do have heat but we're in an older facility that is not air conditioned. We have evaporative coolers and lots of fans.

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    We currently have 6 flag techs, two helpers and 3 lube technicians. There are two service advisors and two parts counter people.

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    The service department is open from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. The techs are scheduled at 8:00 and essentially work until the day is done. We are accommodating of personal schedules. We have a half day on Saturdays and techs work every third Saturday.

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    We have manufacturer specific special tools available as well as tire and alignment equipment.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    Basic break room.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    20 bays not including lube shop.

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    Approximately 800-1000 ROs.

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    We are transitioning to CDK service to order parts through our DMS. Currently techs go to the shop counter and consult with a parts person who orders their parts.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    Techs are allowed to work on their own vehicles or family vehicles as long as there is an open repair order. Actual side work is not permitted, though we do give steep discounts if someone is bringing in their friends vehicle.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    We are big on factory training. I feel like there is no such thing as having too many trained/certified techs.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    There is always room for growth within our organization. We have techs that started as porters and lube techs that moved up to line techs.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    We don't have a standard performance review for techs. It is based upon certifications and production.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    Standard OSHA and manufacturer's training.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    We have several master techs and one dedicated shop foreman that work with and train our next generation of techs. It's the primary way we develop technicians.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    We are involved in several ways. We sponsor local charity events and fund raisers. We are also involved in our local high schools by providing assistance to the life-skills programs, teaching students about automotive maintenance and basic repair and operation.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    We work with the local high schools and regularly attend career fairs to try to recruit new technicians.

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    We are striving to grow through customer pay sales and customer retention. We have a lot of room to grow!

  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    We have a short application to fill out. It can be emailed if preferred.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    I usually like to have a phone conversation prior to an in-person interview.

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    I feel like the best interviews are casual discussions. It's important to find someone who has the right personality and career goals to fit our small team. A lot of my interviews for techs or advisors last 30 minutes to an hour. I also like to take techs around the shop and the rest of the property. I really want techs to know what they're signing up for when they come to work for us.

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    We do a background check, DMV driving record check and a standard drug screening prior to employment.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    No.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    It depends on the position applied for and our immediate needs. IT could be several weeks or one to two days.

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

    The process itself takes approximately a week and a half to get cleared and have all of the new hire's logins set up for our computer systems.

    Pay Range: $72,800 - $93,600/year ($35.00 - $45.00/hr)

    Compensation will be based on someone's overall background, certifications and experience level.

  • B Level Technician
    Pay Range: $52,000 - $72,800/year ($25.00 - $35.00/hr)
    ($25.00 - $35.00/hr)

  • C Level Technician
    Pay Range: $0 - $0/year

    Compensation will be based on someone's overall background, certifications and experience level.

  • Lube Technician
    Pay Range: $0 - $0/year

    Compensation will be based on someone's overall background and experience level.

  • Student Tech / Apprentice
    Pay Range: $0 - $0/hour

    Compensation will be based on someone's overall background and experience level. Ideally, we are looking for someone with an Associates Degree or Trade School diploma.

You are eligible to enroll in Four Stars Auto Group’s benefit plans if you are a regular, full-time employee scheduled to work at least 30 hours per week. As a regular, full-time employee, you are eligible for benefits on the first day of the month following 60 days of continuous service. When it comes to medical coverage, Four Stars Auto Group offers you two different PPO plans to choose from. $1500 PPO $4000 PPO Four Stars Auto Group pays a portion of the overall cost for your medical benefits. Your dental and vision rates are 100% paid for by you, the employee. The amount you pay will depend on the choices you make. DEPENDENT ELIGIBILITY You may also cover your eligible dependents, including: • Your legal spouse. • Your eligible children up to age 26 for medical, dental, vision coverage and voluntary life insurance. • “Children” are defined as your natural children, stepchildren, legally-adopted children, and children for whom you are the court-appointed legal guardian. • Physically or mentally disabled children of any age who are incapable of self-support. Proof of disability may be requested.
Dental Insurance Offered Yes to Dental Four Stars Dental Plans are administered through BCBSOK Dental and provides you and your family with coverage for typical dental expenses, such as cleanings, X-rays, fillings, and orthodontia for adults and children with select plans. Choosing a Dental Option You can choose from two dental options: • High Plan Dental PPO • Low Plan Dental PPO
Vision Insurance Offered Yes to Vision The vision plan allows you to go to any eye care provider of your choice. However, if you choose providers who are part of the BCBSOK network, you will receive a discount on services and there are no claim forms to complete. You have to pay extra if you choose certain cosmetic or elective eyewear, so be sure to ask your eye doctor what items are covered by the plan before you purchase materials.
