The Flynn's Tire Company is a family-owned business operated by the Flynn family in Mercer County, Pennsylvania. Our founders established a reputation of service and value that continues throughout the organization today. We are a family that really knows the tire and auto service business. Growing from a single location in Mercer Pennsylvania to 33 total locations in Pennsylvania and Ohio, our company is still expanding. To serve our retail store network, Flynn's Tire has four large warehouses strategically located to ensure that a large variety of tire sizes are available for our 25 retail stores. As a result of our large buying power and network of locations, we have become a distributor of Goodyear, Dunlop, Kelly, Bridgestone, Firestone, Michelin, BFGoodrich, Hankook, Yokohama, and more, to other tire retailers, service stations, and car dealers in the Western PA and East/Central Ohio region. Our Flynn’s Tire & Auto Service retail stores also offer a variety of mechanical repairs and maintenance services on most vehicle makes and models. Most of our experienced and skilled master technicians have been here for several years, and some are teaching and working with the apprentice entry-level techs to help them improve their skills. Our four Commercial Tire locations service commercial and farm/tractor suppliers and fleets. Additionally, Flynn's Tire has a tire retread division to supply truck tires to the motor freight carrier industry. The Flynn family members all participate in the organization at different levels. However, Flynn's Tire considers all associates a part of an extended family and views them as valued members of the team. In fact, we believe we have the most knowledgeable, service-oriented staff anywhere in the tire business. Hiring Process
  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    Heated yes, Air conditioned no.

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    Generally have 2 skilled techs, 3 entry to mid-level techs, 4 tire and general service techs, a store manager, service manager and retail salesperson.

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    Currently shop hours are 730am - 5pm Monday thru Friday, and 730am - 3pm on Saturdays.

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    Air guns, cordless impacts, basic hand tools, Snap-On scanner, Autel TPMS scanner, Identifix, battery tester, fluid exchange equipment, bench grinder, vice, A/C machines (including R1234YF), state of the art Hunter alignment machine, wheel balancers, tire changing machines, flat repair stations and more.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    Separate air conditioned room in back of shop with refrigerator and microwave.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    5 repair bays, 2 alignment / repair bays and 2 tire service bays.

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    700 repair orders on average (includes tire orders)

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    Our managers and sales teams review the recommendations with the technician and begin to load the work order into our software. We use integrated Epicor to quickly order parts from a list of vendors and place on the work order. We also have various part stores website accounts saved to PCs for lookup, verification and ordering.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    Side work for family and friends offsite is permitted. It becomes a conflict when the vehicle is in our shop or a customer of ours and repair work (the sale) is done offsite by the technician.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    Yes, we offer some internal and external automotive technician training, including in-person and virtual. Some outside technical training vendors are Hunter, Carquest Technical Institute (CTi), Federal Mogul, Napa Autotech and more. We also utilize Goodyear's online training access, including ASE prep, assessment test and reimbursement.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    We are proud that many of our service managers, store managers and master auto techs began their careers with us as tire and service technicians. We promote growth and cross training which leads to opportunities at all levels, including a Tool Box Program and/or mentorship for select tire techs to become more skilled and successful.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    Currently our managers sit down with each associate twice per year to review job performance.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    We require OSHA online safety training annually, Tire Industry Association training and RIST process, Hybrid vehicle safety and other industry course access to promote a safe working environment.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    Most is done by hands on mentoring as with on-the-job training. Select younger techs assist experienced techs allowing them to learn firsthand while skilled techs mentor and increase their productivity.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    We volunteer, donate, sponsor many local schools, churches, fundraising events, community days, etc... and are members of multiple organizations, including Greater Pittsburgh Business Connection and Chambers of Commerce.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    Yes, we have multiple contacts and participation with local high schools, vocational and trade schools.

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    Having more technicians at each location as our business continues to grow while adding new locations every year. This includes investment in building and equipment to maintain our Top Shop status as awarded by Tire Review Magazine.

  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    Yes, and should take less than 5 minutes.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    Yes, it gives employee and employer the opportunity to learn about the job and each other before in-person interview.

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    Various questions about background and experience while offering details about our company, location and specific job position. Give applicant the opportunity to ask us questions. Often this will include meeting other associates and a store/shop tour.

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    We require Motor Vehicle Record check (MVR) for insurability, pre-employment background check and drug screen.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    No, not at this time.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    Usually within one week.

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

    Depends on position, location and number of candidates but generally one to three weeks.

    Pay Range: $65,000 - $95,000/year

    Hourly rate with 1.5 overtime rate for all hours worked over 40/week. Labor Productivity Incentive Plan

    Pay Range: $50,000 - $80,000/year

    Hourly rate with 1.5 overtime rate for all hours worked over 40/week. Labor Productivity Incentive Plan

  • Auto Technician II
    Pay Range: $40,000 - $55,000/year

    Hourly rate with 1.5 overtime rate for all hours worked over 40/week. Labor Productivity Incentive Plan

  • Auto Technician I
    Pay Range: $35,000 - $45,000/year
