Flying Wrench Services was started in 2002 by Coleen’s father. It originally began as one mobile diesel mechanic and after 5 years had grown to three service vehicles and a 10,000 sq ft shop. Coleen began working there in 2007 following in her father’s footsteps, learning the trade and the level of customer care we at Flying Wrench pride ourselves on. Things got really interesting when her husband Bernie started on in 2010. After 4 years of learning the trade from a pro Bernie began running the shop in 2014, taking the shop to new heights. In 2018 Bernie and Coleen were able to buy the business and carry on the legacy. Bernie pulled ahead again and began Flying Wrench Performance with the ultimate goal of diversifying the business. Now we can offer a full range of diesel service for ALL of our customers. We are a member of the Better Business Bureau and the Kingston Chamber of Commerce as a gesture of our serious commitment to Kingston and greater Kitsap County. We take pleasure in our small town roots and family beginnings, and would love to add you to our family!
Feel free to contact us on the form below if you have any questions. Even if you don't see an open position above, we're always looking to hear from good people.

When the job is sold the sales manager orders the parts for the job upon approval from the customer (our sales and service manager are technicians who have done this work for many years and been promoted to their current position). If the job needs to be diagnosed, after the technician has diagnosed and confirmed issues, they write their requested parts list and bring it to their service manager, once handled by the office staff and approved by customer, parts are ordered and you are notified of timeline for delivery.
Techs may work on gas or family member rigs. However all diesel work, including friend's, is expected to come through the business.
Profit share annually. NOT a flat rate shop, you are paid for your hours worked We love to promote our people from the inside. There are quarterly team building trips, things like laser tag, sled pulls, go karts, etc. We buy all of our employees turkeys on Thanksgiving and hams on Christmas. In November for any job that is over $2,000 our company donates a turkey to the local food banks, our highest number was 31. When our employees perform well and show ownership of the company and their positions they are allowed extra privileges, including using the shop to work on personal vehicles, etc. Our employees get parts at wholesale cost. There is a bi-weekly (pay is bi-weekly) bonus for producing at or above your productivity goal.. Flying Wrench has been in the 4th of July parade in our small town since it was started in 2002 (minus 2020, due to COVID), and we continue the tradition of handing out candy and saying hi to our customers, friends, family, and neighbors.
Flying Wrench pays our employees to get their certifications, including covering the cost of study materials and testing, as well as testing time for technicians. We recommend ASE, and EVT, as well as any OE training that comes available, including Cummins, Allison, Ford, Chevy, etc.
Any effort to better the business and the team are noticed and rewarded. We have promoted three shop helpers to apprentice to technician. Our sales manager was promoted from field technician after 4 years. There is a lot of room for growth, both in position as well as pay.
Your direct supervisor reviews your work via our checklist. He will then have a meeting with you regarding your current work level and any great things being done or improvements needed. Twice a year the President of the company will collaborate and go over your performance with you and your direct supervisor. We also have an app where things that may need work, or things that have been done well will be posted by your management team, only you and your management team will see the information posted.
Specific safety training is not required, however we follow all OSHA standards and our shop foreman manages shop safety.
Everybody is expected to share their knowledge and be patient with younger techs. No one will be shamed for lack of knowledge. The usual process for younger techs is working on smaller jobs with oversight from your direct supervisor, ie. service manager/shop foreman. Once you are proficient you are moved up and given instruction and a senior tech to help oversee the larger jobs, and answer any questions you may have.

We currently do not because of staffing shortages but hope to in the future.
We are currently one of the most sought after diesel shops in the area. Our customers and staff are treated like family and we have a high standard for our work. This will only grow more so. In the next five years we see tremendous growth and plan on competing in the NW Dyno circuit, possibly UCC. We would love to see our current team blended with a few more techs and see our team promoted internally. We have the room and the base team, we just need a few more critical technicians to help push the amount of work we can complete further, which would lead to enhanced profit sharing.
We have an application form on our website, Facebook, and on Indeed. Takes 15-30 minutes to complete.
We prefer to have a phone call just to ensure that you are a legal US citizen and have proper transportation. It also allows for you to ask any questions you have before your interview.
You will speak with the Owner about your experience, etc., meet the management staff, check out the shop and speak with some of the current technicians.
Background checks and drug screening are performed.
The skill assessment is spoken. The management staff and owner will ask you questions regarding previous work you've done, as well as other things that may occur, such as, how you would do a job that we currently have in.
Approximately 1 business week.
Depending on availability for interviews approximately 1 business week.
