First Transit is a leader in fixed-route, paratransit, shuttle bus and fleet maintenance services. Our shops in Anaheim and Irvine, CA service Orange County Transportation Authority's fleet of primarily Cummins CNG engines and F550 Ford conversions on New Flyer and Gillig transit buses. The fleet is made up of buses from 30 foot to 40 ft chassis’ and 17 cutaways. 100% Alternative fuel fleet! Our shop's are completely paperless utilizing tablets for work orders. Shops are heated and air-conditioned. Specialty tools and diagnostic systems are provided. Training and testing for ASEs are provided and paid for. 40 hours of training are paid yearly. Unlimited on the job training available!

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    24 Hour Shop. Anaheim & Irvine have the same tech shift times as follows: • 1st shift: 4am to 12:30pm • 2nd shift: 12:00pm to 8:30pm • 3rd shift: 8pm to 4:30am Utilities / Service Crews as follows: • Anaheim – 6pm to 2:30am • Irvine – 5pm to 1:30am

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    Specialty tools and diagnostic equipment provided.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    Break room, Locker room, and showers on site.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    Anaheim - 12 Bays Irvine - 10 Bays

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    Enough to keep consistent work.

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    In-house parts department! Parts Clerk handles ordering and pulling.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    No issues. As long as it doesn't interfere with daily work and not on company property.

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    State of the art repair facility with inground lifts and steam bay. Brake pits for inspecting, emission vents, & roll up bay doors.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    40 hours of training is provided a year. Unlimited opportunity for additional training. ASE training and testing materials are paid for and provided.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    Ability to become Master Technicians through the ASE Programs. Technicians are enrolled in Cengage training programs. Opportunity for advancement within location and company.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    Review work receipts daily. Rerack inspections, QCC process.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    Core 5 process. Daily greenlight safety messages.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    All new techs receive 90 days of mentorship/training.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    Partnerships with UTI.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    We are always looking to grow as a business, and add motivated employees around us.

  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    Yes, we have an online application that can take anywhere from 15-30 minutes to complete. We are a DOT employer so the application may seem a little lengthy, but we are always happy to assist. You can even complete the application on a computer in our shop.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    A manager may ask you a few questions over the phone when they schedule you for an interview, but most questions are saved for the in-person interview.

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    You will meet face-to-face with our Maintenance Manager who will ask you questions from a structured interview guide. Interviews take at least 30 minutes to complete.

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    We do have a background check and drug screening process once you accept a job offer.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    No skills assessments are performed.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    You should hear back within a few days of your interview. If you are still waiting on an answer after a week, call or email the manager and they will follow up with you.

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

    Depending on where the manager is with reviewing and interviewing candidates, it should take about one week from the time you submit an application to the time a hiring decision is made.

ST / LT Disability Offered First Transit offers both voluntary both Short-Term and Long-Term disability to all employees. The employee-paid option of 70% of your weekly earnings, with no maximum benefit, is available through Lincoln Financial for Short-Term. The Employee-paid options of 40%, 50%, 60% of salary, up to a monthly benefit of $12,000 are available through Lincoln Financial Long-Term.
Life Insurance Offered Employee-paid life insurance options are available for employee, spouse, and children through Lincoln Financial. Dependent coverage is limited to 50% of the employee voluntary election amount.
