  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    Yes, online forms take about 20 minutes to complete.

    Yes, we need to verify applicants meet the minimum requirements for a position.

    There is a panel interview, consisting of 25 behavioral and technical questions.

    We perform back ground checks, drug screening and DOT physicals prior to hiring an applicant.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    Yes, your skills are based on your resume and your performance during the in-person interview to insure you meet the minimum requirements.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    One - two weeks.

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

    Generally 30 days once you complete the on line profile that initiates the hiring process.

  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    Heat shop with heated floors for Fairbanks winter climate.

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    Single man location supporting a FedEx fleet of 25-30 assets.

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    Early AM shift or late PM shift, Monday-Friday.

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    Mechanics are expected to provide their own tooling up to 1", specialty/heavy/diagnostic tools are provided.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    Single office with coffee and refrigerator.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    2 bays

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    Around 100/mo

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    Common parts are inventoried on site, when you order a stock part, the system is building an order in the background. You order and receive your parts and pay the invoice once processed.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    No moon lighting or work outside the scope of FedEx Express.

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    Technicians have the autonomy to dictate their daily tasks, order parts, working with vendors in support of completing the assigned monthly work load as well as address unscheduled repairs. Cold weather gear is provided in support of the Alaska winter environment.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    FedEx has training relationships with Mercedes Benz, Isuzu, Freightliner and Cummins to name a few. FedEx provides Tuition Assistance at $3000/year for those interested in career progression.

    There is an initial 6 month employee review and then annually there after.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    Vehicle Maintenance and its employees are constantly reminded of safety. With online safety training required annually, FedEx management and its employees are the driving force behind a safe daily work environment.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    At this unique location, exposure and mentoring most often occurs through relationships established during initial training at the ANC HUB in Anchorage, AK. Peer technicians work similar shift and are a phone call away for common concerns you will encounter.

    FedEx supports many charitable funds, most recognizable is United Way.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    Growing along with the local market. As vehicle technology changes, you be be afforded traing on the most current diagnostic and repair techniques.

  • A Level Technician
    Pay Range: $68,994 - $87,422/year

    Paid hourly as FedEx Global Vehicles Senior Technician, with current ASE Master Certification of $5.15 extra an hour included, based on 40 hr/wk.

  • B Level Technician
    Pay Range: $63,044 - $76,710/year

    Paid hourly as FedEx Global Vehicles Senior Technician, based on 40 hr/wk.

  • C Level Technician
    Pay Range: $40,206 - $46,716/year

    Paid hourly as FedEx Global Vehicles Technician.
