Hiring Process
  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    Yes, it takes about 15 minutes.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    Yes. Phone call screening can take place any time that is necessary for applicant, including nights and weekends.

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    General getting to know you information and questions of current employment status. We try to give a brief description of our business and what a typical day would entail for a new employee. Rough estimates of pay can be discussed and setting up a time to meet and person.

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    No.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    No.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    Within one week. If there is a large field of applicants that will require more time the applicant will be informed of that at the time they turn in an application.

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

    One to two weeks.

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

    No.

  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    Shop is heated using waste oil.

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    We currently have nine people working at our location.

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    Store hours are as follows. M-F 7:00am - 5:00pm SAT 7:00am - 12:00pm Mechanics will work all store hours Monday through Friday with one hour lunch break and every other Saturday.

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    All specialty tools and diagnostic equipment are provided by the shop. There is a full toolbox of hand tools available for technicians to use if they don't have a full set of tools.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    We have a small lunch room with table, microwave, and refrigerator.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    12

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    1,500

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    Parts are ordered by parts manager daily and weekly. We order via stock orders for regular stock parts. Repair orders are placed on two day ground orders or overnight transfer from additional Farm-Rite locations.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    Employees can work on machines as long as they are not being paid for labor.

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    No

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    Training is done through OEM channels of training. Online and on-site training will be performed by employees. Farm-Rite Equipment covers all training expenses.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    Our Company is growing all of the time and has opened three locations in the last eight years. All of our employees have the opportunity to advance within all dealership roles as they are available.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    In person quarterly review with department manager.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    None.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    All technicians will take the time to answer questions of younger technicians as well as offer advice.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    We are a member of the local chamber of commerce. We donate equipment to local organizations and volunteer projects.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    In the last three years we have hired one local high school student and two local community college students. We donate to the local high school ag program and get involved with the local community college as well.

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    We see ourselves providing more road service to customer locations. We also see ourselves selling and servicing more planned maintenance programs. Our OEM is planning more compact product releases so we will likely be expanding more into lawn and garden applications which will require small engines mechanics.

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

    We take great pride in the West-Central Area.

  • A Level Technician
    Pay Range: $45,000 - $55,000/year

    Hourly position.

  • B Level Technician
    Pay Range: $35,000 - $45,000/year

    Hourly wage position

  • C Level Technician
    Pay Range: $30,000 - $35,000/year

    Hourly wage.

  • Student Tech / Apprentice
    Pay Range: $12 - $15/hour
