We currently operate 40 Retail Tire & Automotive Service Centers with Eureka,MO set to open in July and another location in Illinois set to start construction ASAP. Hiring Process
  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    Our applications are typically done on our website gotodobbs.com, under Careers, and take less than 5 minutes. We also have paper applications at all locations.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    Yes, we will ask some quick qualifying questions prior to setting the interview. The questions will include, Do you have a Valid Drivers License? Do you have reliable transportation? Is there anytime / hours / days you are unable to work?

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    The in-person interview will typically be with one of our Store Mangers or District Supervisors, depending on the position. The interview will go over your application and verify the information, but the real purpose is to get the feel for how you will fit the Team. It is the "get to know you part" that we will be focusing on. This is your time to shine, and tell us why you are the best candidate for the position.

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    We do a background check on your license for insurance purposes, and a check to verify the application is correct. Drug screenings and personality tests are not part of the normal hiring process, but may be request at anytime during employment.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    No

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    Typically you will know on the spot. If more interviews are being conducted for the same location and position it may be up to 3 days.

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

    That depends on you. We contact applicants within 24-48 hrs to do the initial phone screen and set the face to face interview.

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

    We attempt to pick the location that we are hiring at for the interview, so you can check the commute time and make sure it is acceptable, see the facility, and meet the associate you will be potentially working with.

  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    Our shop is heated in the fall months, and we use fans and a Polar cooler to keep i cool in the summer.

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    Our team consists of anywhere between 15-17 associates.

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    Our Store is open from 7a.m.- 6p.m. Monday - Friday and 7a.m. - 5p.m. on Saturday. Store Managers set their schedules based on business trends. Usually we stagger our crews for maximum coverage.

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    All Tire Technician tools are provided, we do encourage them to start building a box of their own , and we have a tool rewards program for Tire/Lube Techs. We also supply the diagnostic scanners from ATech and SnapOn. We also have specialty tools spread through out the stores. Technicians should have sufficient tools to cover work assigned for their skill level.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    Our break room is heated and air conditioned, it has a high top counter with stools. There is also a refrigerator, microwave, sink, and television in there.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    We are a 10 bay location.

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    On average we will process somewhere between 1,000 - 1,300 work orders in a month.

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    Parts are ordered by the Service Manager after the Technician completely checks out the vehicle. We typically see the parts with 15-30 minutes. In addition, we do have a parts room where common items such as brake pads and rotors, clamps, bulbs, fluids, and belts are stocked.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    What you do on your time off is your business. We just do not want you to solicit Dobbs customers for that work.

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    We encourage our Store Managers & Service Managers to hold shop "Huddle Meetings" on a regular basis. This helps in addressing any changes or issues as well as pulls the team together.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    We offer multiple levels of training for all levels of Technician. This is accomplished through numerous sources Hunter, Driv, NAPA, and in house training. ASE registration and testing is paid for by the Company, and we have a Tech to Tech program that meets quarterly with our Senior Trainer.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    This is definitely a Company that promotes from within. We work with all of our Technicians to advance them to the next level. Starting with our Tire Technicians and our Build A Technician Program, and the opportunity to attend Hunter form Alignment School Levels 1&2. Advancement and pay increases are achieved based on acquiring ASE Certifications, State Inspection License, and job performance.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    Formal Performance Reviews are done at different intervals of employment. Initially associates will have a 30 day, and 90 day review done by the Store /Service Manager in our ADP system. After the initial reviews you will be set up on an annual review schedule.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    Safety will be addressed in the Associate Handbook portion of your in-processing. Entry Level Technicians will be sent through a class at our training facility (TIA), and on the job with their Tech Mentor.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    We have multiple programs running concurrent with Tech School Interns, and Build A Tech associates. Each will be assigned a Mentor Technician that works with them on a daily basis on all jobs. This time is sometimes limited because of school schedules, but daily interaction seems to be the best for the teaching process. Our Alignment Technicians spend a great amount of time with the Tire / Lube Techs showing them everything from safety to proper vehicle inspection.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    If you are from St. Louis you cannot go anywhere without seeing the Dobbs Tire & Auto name and logo. We support numerous community and school programs. We conduct an annual sales drive for Juvenile Diabetes and donate to multiple local charities.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    We have 3 high school tech programs we offer our assistance with education/ employment. We also have College Tech Intern Programs at Jefferson Community College, St Louis Community College, Ranken Technical College, Lewis & Clark Community College, and Pike Lincoln Tech School.

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    Our business continues to draw repeat and new customers. We are always looking for growth and understand our Associates our are biggest asset and resource.

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

    Our average associate has 7 years of service with the company, we feel that this can only happen if you listen to the associates, communicate with them, and make adjustments to the overall work environment. Our neighbors are our customers, and we must provide the best possible customer experience we can.

  • A Level Technician
    Pay Range: $60,000 - $100,000/year

    Technicians are paid a base pay and a monthly Performance Incentive off the total amount of service they do in a period.

  • B Level Technician
    Pay Range: $40,000 - $84,000/year

    Technicians are paid a base pay and a monthly Performance Incentive off the total amount of service they do in a period.

  • C Level Technician
    Pay Range: $33,000 - $64,000/year

    Technicians are paid a base pay and a monthly Performance Incentive off the total amount of service they do in a period.

  • Lube Technician
    Pay Range: $23,000 - $39,000/year

    Tire / Lube Technicians are paid addition money for recommendations for service they find during the through vehicle inspection. There really is no max, it's all about motivation.

  • Service Advisor
    Pay Range: $30,000 - $90,000/year

    Retail Sales Managers are paid monthly commission of tire sales numbers (new and preowned) and alignment sales. They also earn additional money for Goodyear Credit Card Applications. There is no set max to the commission they can earn, it just depends on motivation.

  • Service Manager
    Pay Range: $55,000 - $110,000/year

    Service Managers are paid a monthly base and a monthly commission of total store gross profit dollars. There are also service items spiffs from vendors such as, Fluid Exchange Spiff $ from Valvoline. There is no max $ amount for commission.

  • Student Tech / Apprentice
    Pay Range: $12 - $15/hour

    College Tech School Student are given a $300 check and a pay raise for each semester they complete with a minimum 2.5 GPA. They are also given an $850 Tool Allowance upon graduation.

Health Insurance Offered Our Health Insurance is available in 3 different plan options.It is through Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield. In these plans there is available coverage for family, not just the associate.
Dental Insurance Offered Also, through Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield, but only 1 plan available.
Vision Insurance Offered Again, through Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield and only one option.
Retirement Plan Offered We offer a 401k plan that includes a company match up to 3%. It is available after you reach the minimum 1,000 hours with the Company.
Sick Leave Not Offered
Vacation Offered Vacation is based on Time of Service with the Company.
Paid Holidays Offered We have a total of 6 paid Holidays for our F/T Associates, New Years Day, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day,Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
ST / LT Disability Offered We offer both Short Term and Long Term Disability coverage through Guardian.
Life Insurance Offered This is also through Guardian, and available for not only the Associate but coverage can also be obtained for your spouse and children.
Uniforms Offered Dobbs has a contract with Clean Uniform, and this includes shirts, pants, jackets, shorts, and mechanics belts.
Other Offered Being a Family Owned Company, the Dobbs Family puts a great amount of effort in to providing additional benefits. We conduct many annual functions that add to the overall strength of the Company. We have a annual Company Picnic and, Formal Christmas Party. We have various "Night Outs" at Cardinals and Blues Games. We give every Associate a turkey for Thanksgiving. We have a Veterans Award that gives an Associate and Guest a free 1 week trip to their choice of 3 different locations. Every month we award 3 locations a Store of the Month luncheon. We have an annual Steak & Beans Contest for Store Managers, Service Managers, Retail Sales Managers. We care about our Associates.
