The warehouse/parts specialist will pull the parts needed, and if a major part is on the ticket it will get approved by the owner or service manager. 75% of parts are exchanged, the other 25% is repaired and sent back to customer. Turnaround goal is a couple of days.
Work on family vehicles is allowed. If there is a grey area it must be approved by the owner.
Fuel shop techs will only need a couple thousand dollars worth of tools. This is a minimal cost compared to other shops and positions.
Continued education is always encouraged. We promote in-shop hands on training, online training, seminars and education classes. Upon completion of these trainings technicians will be reimbursed. We also are always opened to other training options and ideas.
Career paths and goals are discussed with the technician during the hiring process, and throughout their career with us. We will help techs hit their goals the best that we can with the positions we have available.
90 run day review for new hires discussing their productivity and how things are going in the shop. Depending how the candidate is performing a raise may happen at that time or at the six month review. We conduct annual reviews after that. Tech will evaluate their selves and their performance, and we will use that form and and evaluate the answers given. We also discuss their likes and dislikes in the shop, and is there anything we should look at changing.
Safety training is ongoing. KPA comes in and does a mock OSHA walk through twice a year. They also provide sit down training in the shop. We participate in Right-To-Know online training once a year. We also provide in-shop training throughout the year.
We have 3 technicians that we use for mentoring. They will be paired up with junior techs for the first three months of employment. They will help with repairs, and be available for any additional questions.
We try and take part in everything we can. Currently we are helping with veterans and building a house for them to get away. We also give to our local homeless shelters, the salvation army, and local church donations through Knights of Columbus.
Our owner was on the board at the local tech. college, but the program was cut. We do participate in senior programs where students will come and work for a couple of hours to gain work experience, and help build their skill set. We also keep our name available at Siouxland Academy for students that want to come in to a real shop atmosphere.
We work in a very nitch market with repairing equipment such as old tractors, and other equipment. Because of this we invested in new technology and continue to keep up to date in our industry. We've invested at least a million dollars to keep relevant, and stay current in our industry. Always looking at new technology and different ways to bring in more work. We also look to continue working hard at keeping things legal, and environmentally friendly.
We provide a paper application that takes about 15-20 minutes to complete. We ask for three references, and three previous jobs if applicable.
We would rather do an in-person interview if possible. If the technician can't do that first we will make exceptions.
In-person interviews are done with the Owner, and at times the Service Manager. We use the answers on the job application to lead the interview, and we discuss things like experience, background, certifications, and career goals.
No.
If the candidate already has a mechanical background a skills assessment will not be required. If this is the candidates first tech. job we will ask for a light assessment with simple repairs.
