Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

Yes, Our heat comes from a EPA approved waste oil heater with a Propane back up. We keep the shop at 68-72 degrees in the winter. For the Summer we use a 25 ton AC Unit that pulls the humidity out of the air and can keep the shop 20-30 degrees cool than the outside temperatures.

What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

Monday - Friday 7:00am to 5:00pm (We are closed Saturday and Sunday) Report to work by 6:50 am for a 5-10 min meeting Clean up our bays from 7:00 am to 7:10 am 1 hour for lunch 1 hour for breaks

What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

Everything, except for hand tools and basic scan tools so that all the techs have their own favorite scanners. We do have a program where you pick out the tool you want to have as your own and the shop pays for it and lets you pay it back a few dollars each week (you can also use your tool bonuses to help pay for scanners) . The shop does have IDS, Tech stream, Wy Tech, Tech One, factory tools for when you want or need it over your own.

What type of break room facility is provided?

Full break room with TV/PC/ refrigerator, microwave, Keurig, toaster, sink, utensils, plates, snacks, drinks, Nice chairs and tables.

How many bays does your shop have?

10 bays plus an area for our Autel ADAS system

How many repair orders do you average per month?

Our goal is for each technician to work on 3 vehicles a day at 3.5 hours billed per RO / vehicle or 15 vehicles a week (52 hours flagged) or 65 a month each technician. Working smarter not harder is the name of the game.

What is your parts ordering process?

The parts ordering process is all done by the service advisors after the authorization has been obtained from the client. Top level new parts are sourced, no client supplied parts are allowed. 50% of the new parts are OE

What is your policy on side work?

We do not have one other than not at the shop and all of our guys/gals make real money and no longer want to do side work. You can work on your own stuff at the shop.

Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

First off, unless it's yours, no warranty work and if it is yours and we can bill the warranty company the labor is still the same as the original work. Only the shop takes the dollar hit not you! Can you describe your performance review process?

Our performance review process is ongoing a team effort and looks for employees doing things right, that care about growing and being part of a team.

What type of safety training is required?

Basic safety training is performed at the onboarding process of orientation then on going after that.Everyone is a safety officer and has the power to stop any unsafe practice at any time.

Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

Our apprentice technicians are assigned to the shop Forman as a point of contact and then are rotated through the shop with all technicians to learn as many different viewpoints as possible. We take on one at a time and the internship will last at least 2 years.

How does your shop get involved with the local community?

We have contacts with community outreach programs, school actives support ,church support programs

Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

We are an active member of the Collin County Community College Technical Trades for automotive program and a founding member of the advisory committee for this program. We participated the schools ASE accreditation application and inspection process as well.

Where do you see the shop in five years?

Advancing at the speed of the market. We already have EV services in place and added full ADAS systems in 2023. We will be training during the week during the day (no more night training in the future)

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

The policies are in place. We have the means and resources to provide training that you want to be a the top of the game as long as you have the desire to succeed.

Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

Our application takes about 10 minutes to fill out if you have all your documents ready. Driver’s license, Social security card, ASE certificates and your resume.

Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

Yes we do preform a prescreening and will arrange for a video and or phone call to cover any go/no go employment qualifications questions.

What do your in-person interviews entail?

Once an applicant is invited to an in person formal interview it is really all about us getting to know more about each other. It is a great opportunity for the applicant to ask lots of questions and let us know what they expect from us and what we can except from them. This part will take the better part of a day and will give you the opportunity to speak with all of our department heads, the owner, the manager, HR and the shop Forman. We will provide the applicant lunch.

Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

Yes, we do back ground checks and drug screening. We work with Federal, State and local agency’s that expose our team members to sensitive and protected equipment. We’re not too concerned about a traffic citation here and there. It is to screen for more serious past decision making.

Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

We do have a hand on skills assessment for all positions. This will last for a whole day and lunch is provided.

After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

After the in person interviews a hand on skills assessment you will be notified within 14 days. Most notifications are made within 5 days.

Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

Providing the applicant does their due diligence with getting us the needed documentation and the drug screening and back ground checks are retuned to us quickly that is required we can have the person a formal offer in 17 days.

Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

We are looking for the right person to hire. About 30% is the skills, 20% are the certifications and 50% is a positive, team focused, wants to get better mental thought process. The majority of our team has been with us over a decade and some have been with us double that. When we bring a new team member into our group it must be right for all of us, including you and your family.

Lube Technician Pay Range: $35,360.00 - $52,000.00/year

It is the last week in April and we're getting the AC unit for the shop tuned up and running today. Change the air filters and we have 75 degrees in the shop with low humidity (that's the real winner when it is 93% humidity outside)

Had a fantastic training event today where a Napa NAIT training instructor gave us a full Saturday of hands-on training on air conditioning testing and inspections at a very high level.

We are starting our training for 2024. We have posted our short list. that is 6 evening training classes and 4 all day Saturdays that are not sales pitches but real training. The food is not bad also. We pay for each tech to go to training because we know your time is valuable and we are committed to investing in your future.

Monday morning 12 degrees and snow and ice makes for a slower day. We started this week some discussion to make our digital vehicle health inspection a little easier and now even better to use. We use two way interactions with management and team interactions that helps improve the culture our our shop. It can be a major change or just adding or removing a line or two. Today we added an automated response to a condition picked. This saves a few clicks and that saves time (something we are all trying to get more of.)
