Established in 1930, Giffin Rental is a business staple in Goleta Valley. We specialize in buying, selling, and renting construction equipment, including aerial work platforms, air compressors, forklifts, earth movers, landscaping equipment, trucks, trailers, and more. As one of the oldest companies in Goleta Valley, we have continued to evolve to meet the needs of our customers. That’s why, when we recognized that Bobcat’s presence was missing from the Ventura area, we decided to become a Bobcat partner. In early 2020, we established Bobcat of Ventura and Bobcat of Goleta. We carry the full range of Bobcat equipment, including compact tractors, skid steers, excavators, utility vehicles, and much more. Both of these locations are also full-service dealers that can not only handle sales and rentals, but also parts and service.

  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    We do not have a formal application to complete.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    We do like to screen our applicants via phone before an in-person interview.

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    Our in-person interviews will be conducted with the General Manager, Shop Foreman as well as our Service Coordinator. We will visit with the candidate to get a feel for their personality and see if they are a good fit for our team as well as ask them some questions to gauge their mechanical aptitude.

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    We will perform a background check as well as a drug screen.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    We won't perform a skill assessment test before hiring, but will be asking questions in the interview to gauge skill level of candidates.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    We will try to get back with a rejection or offer letter as promptly as possible, but it will depend on the volume of candidates we are interviewing.

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

    The hiring process is pretty quick once we find the right candidate and hope to get someone going within a couple weeks.

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

    We understand that candidates may currently be working. We will be discreet as well as flexible for interview times to accommodate schedules.

  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    No heat or AC in the shop, but we are close to the ocean and the shop doesn't get too hot or cold.

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    You would be working with two yard personnel.

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    We are open from 7am to 5pm. Typically techs get in around 7am and work until 4 or 5 with breaks in between.

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    We have specialty tools for the equipment we work on that will be at the techs disposal.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    We have a loft with a couch, table, microwave and refrigerator.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    We have a 4,000 square foot shop that currently has two bays.

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    We are currently doing repairs and preventative maintenance on our rental machines and have approximately 20 orders a month, but now that we've taken on the Bobcat dealership we plan on doubling that.

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    Our techs look up the parts they need and let our parts guy know so that he can order or pull it off the shelf for them.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    We want a technician that is a team player and wants to help build our brand and business. We would like someone that is not interested in doing side work as this would take away from our business.

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    Our company is going through a lot of growth and changes, so we're looking for someone wanting to get on the ground floor of a growing business. There will be a lot of great opportunity over here.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    Bobcat has an online university as well as in class room and hands on training that we will be sending our techs to.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    We are a new company and there will be plenty of opportunity to grow with our business as we add personnel as well as new locations.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    Our techs will sit down with our service coordinator as well as the GM to set goals for our techs. Every six months to a year we will revisit these goals and see if our mechanics have achieved or fallen short of set goals.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    There is no safety training required to get hired, however there will be aerial and forklift certs that we will help our techs acquire.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    We have yard personnel that would like to move into the position of tech and we'll be relying on our mechanics to train them in preventative maintenance and then more technical repairs from there.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    Being a rental yard as well as a dealership we look for opportunities to serve the community in whatever way possible.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    Unfortunately we do not currently have any programs that encourage HS students to enter this profession.

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    We're hoping to have a new, larger facility in the next 5 years as well as two additional locations.

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

    We're always looking to hire people who are connected and know people looking for opportunities to work in our industry.

  • A Level Technician
    Pay Range: $50,000 - $60,000/year

    Pay is bi-weekly.

  • B Level Technician
    Pay Range: $44,000 - $56,000/year

    Pay is bi-weekly.

  • C Level Technician
    Pay Range: $40,000 - $50,000/year

    Pay is by-weekly.

Health Insurance Offered We have a several health plans and the company covers 50% of base plan.
Dental Insurance Offered Dental insurance is an option you can add to your health plan and the cost would be deducted from your pay.
Vision Insurance Offered Vision insurance is an option you can add to your health plan and the cost would be deducted from your pay.
Retirement Plan Not Offered
Sick Leave Offered 3 days a year.
Vacation Offered 5 days vacation that is accrued during the year. 7 days will be acrcued during your 2nd year. 10 days will be accrued during your 3rd year. 15 days paid vacation after 10 years with the company.
