About Us

Tom Schmitzer Jr. started with AutoSource in 1987 as lead mechanic, eventually buying 50% of the business and becoming General Manager. In 1993 he bought the rest of the company and was joined by his wife Kathy. Together they have run AutoSource for the better part of 3 decades with multiple family members involved. Starting out AutoSource had just 1 technician and a couple hundred thousand dollars in annual sales and has since grown to a 7 bay, 5 technician shop with 5 times the sales. Tom and Kathy' son Thomas bought into the business in 2016 and they have added two 1-800 Radiator warehouses (Madison and Appleton) to the business to form Schmitzer Industries. As Tom sought retirement, AutoSource hired Ron Kornhoff as new Service Manager in 2020. Ron brought 25+ years of experience and outside knowledge to AutoSource and helped Tom transition to a less active role in the business. Sadly, Tom Schmitzer Jr. passed away in 2020. Kathy remains active in day-to-day management working with Ron. Business owner Kathy and her son Thomas continue to grow the business as a tribute to Tom's legacy.

    They are a short meeting between our service manager and our lead technicians. It's important for us to make sure the candidate is not only skilled but a cultural fit.

    We do not have a skill assessment

    3-7 days.

    Our company has a core set of values and the most important part of the interview process is ensuring the candidate can operate with these values in mind and help reinforce the culture.

  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    The shop is heated but not air conditioned. Doors are kept open in summer for air flow.

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    AutoSource usually has 4-5 technicians, a Service Manager, A Parts Counter, 3-4 delivery drivers and an outside sales person.

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    7:30 - 5:00 (Monday-Friday)

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    Diagnostic tools

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    We have a nice air conditioned break room.

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    We have a dedicated parts team to handle parts.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    Side work ok for friends and family if it does not take away business from the company. We give technicians the ability to purchase parts at our cost, a 40% discount from what it would normally cost them.

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    We are the largest, longest running shop in Chilton.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    We have THE BEST technician training program in the game. As a technician at AutoSource you will receive: 1. Monthly ASE seminars that come directly TO YOU to perform the trainings 2. OnDemand internet training and self-study 3. An app for your phone with DAILY training nuggets 4. Reimbursement for any additional trainings you desire 5. $$$ for exceeding training requirements

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    As a growing business there are many opportunities to grow with AutoSource! You could move to Service Advisor, grow into Service Manager or General Manager. Also, opportunities in parts at one of our 3 parts locations or outside sales.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    We perform an annual performance review process based off hire date. Merit based increases are awarded for technicians meeting or exceeding expectatons.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    Safety Training is provided on an ongoing basis. All employees go through required OSHA training prior to starting.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    Our Sr. techs take pride knowing that they got to where they are with the help of others. They can be great mentors to younger ambitious technicians.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    Our President is actually City Council President!

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    Yes

    We expect to double the size of our sales and headcount

    Chilton is a an underrated community. It's is a thriving agri-industrial community with alot of opportunity for the right person. Tourism continues to grow here due to the beauty of Lake Winnebago and the surrounding area.

  • A Level Technician
    Pay Range: $40,000 - $75,000/year

    Pay Range is a hybrid Flat Rate and Hourly program. Technicians have an hourly wage based off of experience and the hourly wage increase as does their weekly billings.

  • B Level Technician
    Pay Range: $40,000 - $52,000/year

    Pay Range is a hyrid Flat Rate and Hourly program. Technicians have an hourly wage based off of experience and the hourly wage increase as does their weekly billings.

  • C Level Technician
    Pay Range: $31,000 - $42,000/year

    Pay Range is a hyrid Flat Rate and Hourly program. Technicians have an hourly wage based off of experience and the hourly wage increase as does their weekly billings.

  • Service Advisor
    Pay Range: $35,000 - $65,000/year

    Pay Range is a hybrid Flat Rate and Commission Bonus program. Advisors have an hourly wage based off of experience and the hourly wage increase as does their weekly billings.

  • Student Tech / Apprentice
    Pay Range: $11 - $13/hour
