Hiring Process
  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    The shop is heated during the cooler months and has swamp coolers for the warmer seasons.

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    The Shop averages 11-12 Team Members which includes a Manager, three Service Advisors, Support Specialist, six-seven Technicians

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    Open Monday through Saturday. Mon - Fri. 7:30am - 5:30pm and Saturday 8:00am - 5:00pm. Technicians and Service Advisors rotate weekends off. Shifts are flexible depending on business needs.

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    Snap On Zues Diagnostics, A/C equipment, presses, flush equipment, alignment machines. Software updates are provided regularly at no cost to you.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    Comfortable and clean break room with refrigerator, microwave, coffee machine and more.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    On average we see about 450 cars a month with 11 bays.

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    450

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    Parts are sourced from many different vendors depending on location and part availability. We do not have a "one source" policy. Most parts are ordered electronically through our shop management system by the Service Advisors.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    You may work on your primary vehicle in the shop on your day off. No other outside work is allowed.

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    There is a great culture with this group. They actively participate in company activities including our annual Halloween contest and who doesn't like an occasional barbeque. This location is a combined Auto Center and Membership branch which creates more exposure for the shop.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    We reimburse for ASE Certifications and have ongoing paid training opportunities.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    There are many opportunities for growth with AAA. We're continuing to open new locations and we always consider our current Team Members for promotions with Auto Repair as well as opportunities within our Fleet, Membership and Home Security groups.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    We have yearly goals established for all levels. We also have mid year reviews that normally happen in July-August. For most automotive positions the goals are very clear and we provide performance metrics to team members so that they can monitor on a consistent basis.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    Monthly and Quarterly safety meetings.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    We are very excited to be introducing our Technician Apprentice program this year. We select our top Tech's to work as a team with an apprentice. It spans over a 2 year period with monthly goals and the final outcome of being an ASE Master Certified Technician.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    We partner with local schools that have Automotive programs to match students with opportunities.

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    This is in planning stages for 2022.

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    This ship is on track to surpass 3 million in gross revenue which leads to more opportunities. AAA is strategically growing our Bay Area footprint with New locations in Hayward and San Rafael coming soon.

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

    AAA is very responsible and civic minded. We offer all employees Paid Volunteer Time where employees are actually paid their PTO rate for volunteering at the charity of their choice. This is separate from their regular paid time off. AAA is a national sponsor of child safety seats and School Safety Patrols

  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    Applications are done online and can be completed in 10-15 minutes.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    You'll be contacted by a Recruiter for a brief call to get to know you and share more about the benefits and how the opportunity fits with your experience.

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    Meeting with the Hiring Manager, Director and a Senior Diagnostic Technician

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    Yes, we do a comprehensive background screening that includes criminal, motor vehicle, education, employment verification and drug screening.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    Technicians will do a brief diagnostic test.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    Decisions are made within 24 hours of a final interview.

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

    7-10 days

  • A Level Technician
    Pay Range: $79,000 - $140,000/year

    Progressive flat rate payment plan with regular hourly pay for hours worked OR flat rate hours billed, whichever is higher. Flat rate is dependent on years of experience and ASE level. (current or expired)

  • B Level Technician
    Pay Range: $66,500 - $120,000/year

    Progressive flat rate payment plan with regular hourly pay for hours worked OR flat rate hours billed, whichever is higher. Flat rate is dependent on years of experience and ASE level. (current or expired)

  • Lube Technician
    Pay Range: $22 - $24/year ($0.01 - $0.01/hr)
    ($0.01 - $0.01/hr)

    Compensation dependent on years of experience.

  • Service Advisor
    Pay Range: $28 - $30/year

    Guaranteed base with a generous commission plan.
