Hiring Process
  • Do you have an application form and how long does it typically take to complete?

    Applications are done online and can be completed in 10-15 minutes.

  • Do you phone screen applicants before doing in-person interviews?

    You'll be contacted by a Recruiter for a brief call to get to know you and share more about the benefits and how the opportunity fits with your experience.

  • What do your in-person interviews entail?

    Meeting with the Hiring Manager, Director and a Senior Diagnostic Technician

  • Do you perform background checks, drug screening, or personality tests before hiring an applicant?

    Yes, we do a comprehensive background screening that includes criminal, motor vehicle, education, employment verification and drug screening.

  • Do you perform a skill assessment before hiring an applicant? If yes, what does it entail?

    Technicians will do a brief diagnostic test.

  • After an in-person interview, approximately how long should I expect to wait for a rejection or an offer?

    Decisions are made within 24 hours of a final interview.

  • Approximately how long does the full hiring process take from submitting the application to the time of the hiring decision?

    7-10 days

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about your hiring process?

    N/A

  • Is the shop heated? Air conditioned?

    Most shops in temperate climates are not heated. All shops are equipped with evaporative coolers for cooling. Shops in cold climates are heated with infrared heaters or gas heaters

  • What is the size of the team I’d be working with?

    Our Shops have between seven and twelve team members. Team Members include a Manager, two Service Advisors, A Customer Service Representative (also provides shuttle service), a General Service Technician and Technicians ranging in various ASE certification levels.

  • What are the shop hours and what are the shift timeframes?

    Our shops are open six days M-F 7:30 to 5:30 and Sat 8-4. Technicians work alternate Saturdays in most locations.

  • What tools does the shop provide that are available for all technicians to use?

    Our Shops provide lifts, jacks and stands as well as diagnostic tools, presses and fluid transfer machines. Most other tools are supplied by the technicians themselves.

  • What type of break room facility is provided?

    Our shops have break rooms with most of them containing a sink, refrigerator, microwave, seating areas and air conditioned.

  • How many bays does your shop have?

    This varies by location, but our staffing varies as well due to the volume. At our busiest shops, there are more technicians, the lower volume shops have fewer technicians working there.

  • How many repair orders do you average per month?

    This varies by location, our repair facilities on average see approximately 350-500 vehicles per month.

  • What is your parts ordering process?

    Parts are sourced from many different vendors depending on location and part availability. We do not have a "one source" policy. Most parts are ordered electronically through our shop management system.

  • What is your policy on side work?

    We do not allow side work, we feel it is a conflict of interest.

  • Are there any other unique features of the work environment worth noting?

    We recognize the hot environment that we work in. In the summer months AAA provides technicians with Gatorade. Often times when the location has a good month, the manager Barbeques for the team. All locations have BBQ's for this purpose. AAA has the best benefits in the business. Paid time off, company match 401K up to 6%. We also have a diagnostic roving specialist who can perform reflashes as well as provide diagnostic help to the team.

  • Do you offer any skills training or continuing education opportunities?

    We allow and support many different training methods. We offer paid training to approved training sites as well as online training. Traditional college is also eligible for reimbursement.

  • Can you describe opportunities for career growth at your business?

    We not only have promotion opportunities within our own business line including management options but with many business lines at AAA transfers outside of Automotive is possible too.

  • Can you describe your performance review process?

    We have yearly goals established for all levels. We also have mid year reviews that normally happen in July-August. For most automotive positions the goals are very clear and we provide performance metrics to team members so that they can monitor on a consistent basis.

  • What type of safety training is required?

    We have a once per month Safety meeting that the manager facilitates. We also have computer based training.

  • Can you describe how Techs work with and mentor younger techs?

    We have a specific Mentor and Apprentice program. But we also encourage our techs to work together within our shops. In addition we have a diagnostic specialist that works for us to help troubleshoot issues by phone. He also provides programing services to our stores.

  • How does your shop get involved with the local community?

    AAA is very responsible and civic minded. We offer all employees Paid Volunteer Time where employees are actually paid their PTO rate for volunteering at the charity of their choice. This is separate from their regular paid time off. AAA is a national sponsor of child safety seats and School Safety Patrols

  • Do you do anything with local high schools or tech schools to encourage more students to enter the profession?

    We attend job fairs at Trade Schools.

  • Where do you see the shop in five years?

    We are growing very quickly. We have gone from three locations in 2010 to 30 + locations by the end of 2021

  • Is there anything else you’d like to mention about career development and community?

  • A Level Technician
    Pay Range: $50,000 - $120,000/year

    Progressive flat rate payment plan with regular hourly pay for hours worked OR flat rate hours billed, whichever is higher. Flat rate is dependent on years of experience and ASE level. (current or expired)

  • B Level Technician
    Pay Range: $35,000 - $120,000/year

    Progressive flat rate payment plan with regular hourly pay for hours worked OR flat rate hours billed, whichever is higher. Flat rate is dependent on years of experience and ASE level. (current or expired)

  • Lube Technician
    Pay Range: $37,440 - $39,250/year ($18.00 - $18.87/hr)
    ($18.00 - $18.87/hr)

    Hourly pay with no flat rate.

  • Service Advisor
    Pay Range: $48,000 - $90,000/year

    Base Salary with a generous commission plan.
